You may recall that back in February, Dick's Sporting Goods CEO and Chairman Ed Stack announced that in response to the Parkland, Florida, school shooting, "the sporting goods chain would no longer sell rifles to anyone under the age of 21, even though such sales are perfectly legal under federal law."

In a public letter, Stack made the company's position on the matter crystal clear:

"We will no longer sell assault-style rifles, also referred to as modern sporting rifles. We had already removed them from all Dick's stores after the Sandy Hook massacre, but we will now remove them from sale at all 35 Field & Stream stores. We will no longer sell firearms to anyone under 21 years of age. We will no longer sell high-capacity magazines. We never have and never will sell bump stocks that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly."

In the same breath, the chairman called on "elected officials" to "enact common-sense gun reform" and to pass certain "regulations," including requiring "universal background checks that include relevant mental health information" and closing "the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background checks."

Now, I don't need to get into the particulars of why Stack's remarks are entirely off-base because you and I already know that the measures he lays out would be ineffectual solutions to eradicating school shootings and other rapid mass murders.

What I'm concerned about today is the company's latest move against the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Amendment and against our God-given, constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms.

According to The Federalist, "The sporting goods store, under fire for refusing to sell rifles to anyone under the age of 21, is now officially lobbying Congress for gun control, according to federal lobbying activity records."

Dick's allegedly procured three Beltway lobbyists, according to "federal records reviewed by The Federalist."

And the backlash has already begun...

In a press release, Springfield Armory announced they are cutting ties with Dick's Sporting Goods "in response to their hiring a group for anti-2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Amendment lobbying."

SA's statement said, in part, "It is clear where Dick's Sporting Goods ... stand[s] on the 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Amendment, and we want to be clear about our message in response. Their position runs counter to what we stand for as a company. At Springfield Armory, we believe in the right and principles fought for and secured by American patriots and our founding forefathers, without question. We will not accept Dick's Sporting Goods' continued attempts to deny 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Amendment freedoms to our fellow Americans."

With things heating up in the gun-control realm, I encourage you to follow Springfield Armory's lead. Speak up. Call and write your representatives and senators and tell them where you stand. Tell them your 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] Amendment rights are not up for debate or compromise.

Of course, I would never tell you how to spend your hard-earned dollars, but I do encourage you to consider fulfilling your sporting-goods needs somewhere besides Dick's.

Our voices and our actions matter now more than ever. With both pro-gun and anti-gun groups making some bold moves, we must stand strong together for our inalienable right to purchase, possess and carry firearms for self-defense.

It’s a story about a man named Richard...

Richard is a USCCA Member who lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

He and his wife live in a nice neighborhood on the outskirts of town.

Richard was laid off a few months before, but came home on a Thursday evening excited to tell his wife that the interview went great and they offered him a new job, his dream job, on the SPOT!

After weeks of scraping by, they were finally going to be able to count on receiving a steady paycheck again.

So, the weekend started off on a good note...

Apparently, some thug caught his brother off guard, and when he resisted the carjacking attempt, they proceeded to beat him severely in the head with a wooden baseball bat!

Richard clearly could see that if he didn’t act soon, his brother wasn’t going to survive.

He quickly retrieved his firearm he used for carrying concealed and headed out the front door and into the fray…

Despite his shouted commands, the criminal didn’t stop the beating…

However, once Richard drew his firearm, the attacker got wise and bolted.

Well, I wish I could say the police and ambulance arrived shortly thereafter, and his brother survived and Richard was hailed as a hero.

Thank God his brother survived, but even though Richard stopped the robbery and saved his brother’s life without ever firing a shot, HE was the one who was arrested!

Dragged away like a criminal with his bloody brother lying on the ground...and his frightened wife crying in the doorway…

Shortly after arriving at the police station, he was charged and thrown in jail because he couldn’t afford the massive bail bond that the gun-hating judge imposed on him…

Can you imagine how he was feeling?

Scared…angry...lost...alone...

Replacing Emotions With FACTS...
BY TIM SCHMIDT - USCCA FOUNDER "Years back, I was a staunch gun control advocate. Last week, I joined the NRA and the Gun Owners of America, and I'm looking to join more Second Amendment advocacy groups."

So says H.A. Goodman, a writer and former-anti-gunner-turned-Second-Amendment-supporter, in a recent piece titled "Why I Joined the NRA After Writing Gun Control Articles."

Goodman, a freelancer who's been quite vocal in his opposition to both the Second Amendment and an armed populace, now runs a pro-gun channel on YouTube, according to GunsAmerica.


In The Daily Caller, Goodman himself poses the question we're all wondering: "How did this evolution take place?"

GunsAmerica reports that Goodman's "awakening" resulted from three realizations: "First, that government tyranny is still a persisting problem and that the 2A is, and has been, historically, the safeguard against it proliferating. Second, the government is grossly incompetent when it comes to preventing mass shootings. And, third, it's really a settled matter. Studies prove that gun control is largely ineffective."

In his article, Goodman lists several examples supporting these claims, including Dianne Feinstein's admission "that no legislation could have prevented the Vegas shooting" and how "the FBI knew about the recent Florida shooter before he killed 17 people."

Now, you've likely heard me repeat a few wise words from my friend Lt. Col. Dave Grossman — that "hope is not a strategy" — and I'm keeping these words in mind as I contemplate Goodman's journey to "our side." I'm not holding my breath for scores of people to experience a similar awakening, but it is encouraging to know that when an individual is able to push the heavy emotions aside for a second and replace those emotions with facts — like those from a 2008 study that showed "80 percent of crimes are committed with illegally obtained guns" or that "the Virginia Tech shooter who killed 32 people" did so with "two smaller-caliber handguns that have never been targets of a ban by liberals" [Goodman, [i]The Daily Caller ] — there is a good chance that individual will start to see the Second Amendment for what it is: a God-given, natural-born right and a guarantee for responsible armed citizens all across the country. Most importantly, it shall not be infringed.

Goodman, it seems, has finally seen the light. He claims to have joined the NRA and Gun Owners of America "because the groupthink that I once spewed hurts law-abiding citizens and does nothing to prevent the next deranged copycat criminal."

I commend him for coming forward to share his story. And at the end of the day, I'm holding out a bit of hope that other staunchly anti-gun folks might also search for the truth and follow suit.

Dallas Mother Stops Alleged Carjacker...
BY TIM SCHMIDT - USCCA FOUNDER A recent story out of Dallas showcases a few almost-absolutes:

1. Most criminals are repeat offenders, and most don't care at all about who they hurt trying to get what they want.
2. Most moms will do absolutely anything and everything to protect their children.
3. Good almost always prevails over evil.
4. Guns in the hands of the right people can help save lives.

Here's what happened:

According to CNN, a Texas mother, Michelle Booker, "stopped at [a] gas station's convenience store on her way to a Fourth of July family gathering. When she came out, she saw a man driving away in her SUV. Booker's two small children were inside the car."

That's when the woman sprang into action — literally. Police indicated that "Booker jumped in the car and told the suspected carjacker to pull over and get out. When he didn't stop the vehicle, Booker pulled a gun from her glove compartment and shot him once in the head," as reported in CNN. She told authorities: "I'm not a killer or anything like that, but I do believe in, you know, defending what's mine."

The suspect, identified as Rickey Wright, had previously "been arrested more than 20 times on a variety of charges — including unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of marijuana, evading arrest, assault and theft," according to CBS out of Dallas-Ft.Worth.

That same syndicate reported that "police questioned the woman at the scene and then told her she was free to go. Neither she nor her two children — ages 2 and 4 — were hurt during the shooting or crash."

Thank goodness. But as lucky as this mother was, she didn't do everything right. She left her two young children alone in the car when she went into the gas station. And although reports don't indicate whether or not she left the door to her vehicle unlocked and/or the keys inside, the man apparently got into the SUV without much trouble. Still, the important thing is that Booker managed to defend herself and her children successfully.

Just to reiterate:

1. Most criminals are repeat offenders, and most don't care at all about who they hurt trying to get what they want. Wright had a long rap sheet, and he certainly didn't stop to think about two innocent children in the back seat of a car he tried to steal.
2. Most moms will do absolutely anything and everything to protect their children. In Booker's case, it meant jumping into a moving car and stopping a potentially deadly threat.
3. Good almost always prevails over evil. The suspect was charged, and the victims were unhurt. Best-case scenario right there.
4. Guns in the hands of the right people can help save lives. Booker was indeed the right person here, and lives were indeed likely saved.

Be aware, be alert and fight with everything you have if your life and the lives of those you love depend on it.
