Top Gear US
On rare occasions, they do a special episode like this one. I guess I'm just a little put off by that because these guys haven't established their "routine" with their new audience well enough yet to be breaking from the routine.
I mean, they've done this episode, which was fun, but all about beater trucks and nothing else. They've blown at least two other episodes where weird and uninteresting tangents took away from the standards that we expect to see in an episode of Top Gear, namely the Star in a Cheap Car and some sort of a car review with a Stig lap. They can squeeze both of those things into about 15 minutes, but I think that both need to be included in nearly every episode.
Not sure what they're trying to do... maybe they don't trust the Top Gear formula that got them here in the first place? Maybe they want to try a bunch of different things and see which gets them better ratings? (which is silly, real TV series fans don't watch that way... but I guess executives don't think like real people)

I think the are counting on current top gear fans.. most of which are used to the specials. 1st US trip, 2nd US trip, 3 wise men, Polar exploration. there is usually at least one, 1 hour special per season.
yes top gear UK did not start them till about season 10 of the new show. but they are part of the "new, new" formula. part that works... of course loren I know you don't download so many of the specials don't make it on TV due to the sheer legenth.

I cannot believe they used a show slot for a "best of" after like 5 episodes.

I think they're still trying every trick they can think of to find an audience. It's also a common trick with everything on TV these days to do some sort of a recap show at least once every season. It basically gives them an episode for not much more than the cost of re-editing some old footage. Welcome to Hollywood.

I was the first to "defend" them when people were criticizing, but what a lame excuse of a show!
All the episodes are available for free on video on demand, so what's the point of a "best of" with absolutely nothing new!?

Sadly I don't even think about watching this show on Sunday nights. Maybe I'll catch them on-line sometime. When I do think of it I remember I'll have to hear Rutledge speak and poof there goes that.
The "best of" shouldn't be until any show has a couple seasons under their belt.
Has anyone heard if more episodes have been ordered by the network?
BTW Mexico isn't happy right now with Top Gear UK. Their a bit offended that they had to be attacked with stereo typical humor the way other countries have been. Their ambassador is being a bit of a cry baby right now. Because whining about a TV show about cars is so much easier than dealing with the ever present drug problem their country has.

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

Top Gear UK is in US tonight! Can't wait.

did you catch that it was 2 new episodes, back to back? the first one was a regular new eposide, the second was the Christmas Special where they come to the US.
in regards to TG USA, I am growing to like Rutledge, not 100% though.... but I despise Adam, he is terrible and knows nothing about cars. I really dont understand how he even got the gig...
Would anyone else like to see Rutledge and Adam replaced with Patrick Dempsey and Jay Leno? I think Tanner, Jay and Patrick would draw from great backgrounds, which all involve racing, but each still has their own little specialty. Before you start busting on Patrick with "how does he fit into cars and racing" check the Rolex 24 Hour race results from two weeks ago... he podiumed in GT class (took 3rd). He knows a lot about cars, knows how to drive, and I think he'd make a good fit on that show. Hopefully they'll cancel that damn Grays Anatomy show that he's on so he'll pick up a role on Top Gear. I just dont see Leno doing it because at this point in his career, I dont see him taking on any new projects that he isn't producing...
I can live with Rutledge, but I simply cannot stand the Adam guy. tries too hard and seems like a poser when he's up there; he is clueless.
