Top Gear US
It wouldn't succeed on NBC or any of the networks. It will only work on cable. Would have failed in an episode or two on network TV. I don't expect it to be as funny as the BBC version. I saw a couple of commercials for it lately, and it sounded pretty sterile. If they can't punch it up in the ads, how interesting can the show be? I'm guessing they won't be trying to copy the original too closely.

I suspect it's going to be horrible. The previews so far are pretty atrocious.
Top Gear UK has never been a great car review source IMO, I watch it as a comedy (which is what it is IMO). It works because of the personalities involved. Not sure that chemistry will exist with the US version and if they just try to copy the UK version it'll just come off as a weak attempt to imitate it. If they actually make a good review show (based on previews I'd be shocked) then it could work, as long as the keep at least some comedic content.

Here's some background for those who don't know about this: First Trailer of U.S. 'Top Gear' Released
I personally love CarCast with Adam Carolla and think he'd make a good addition to the show. Too bad he was cut. I think the show in current form has about as much interest as MythBusters. I hope it's successful but think Speed should put down the Pinks and NASCAR to pick a show like this up.

I had no idea who Rutledge Wood was before, but after watching that trailer I think he's quite possibly the most annoying person I've ever seen on TV. I hope they drop that idiot really really fast.
I didn't know who Adam Ferrara was either and didn't hear him talk enough in the trailer to form an opinion.

That looked like an interesting challenge. I had no idea that you could even jump a car that heavy and not pinch flat the tire. That car was practically a aircraft carrier with four wheels.
Well, we will all know in 2.5 weeks when it airs.

Oh, and Drew, I completely agree. It's good that NBC dropped it before it aired.. Network TV is way too competitive for a show like TopGear, it would have been dropped and likely never picked up again. I'm glad that at least it's getting a chance, but Speed would have been a better option, or Spike.. kinda weird being on History channel. Maybe they are hoping/assuming the IRT crowd would also be into TG?
