Yeap, I'm pretty deep in the mr2 community. I love those things. The only SLIGHT detterant (and this is just really minor) is I just cant "SEE" myself having an mr2 for a project car... Maybe a daily driver with boltons. But it just isnt "me"...

Still, if I find one for a good deal, who gives a damn

I know megasquirt is big in tampa... and i understand that ToyDoctor runs it... (here comes my .02) Never been that impressed with it. I personally wouldnt run it on a 7m. Lexus afm, 550's, fpr, super afc, with a sp61gt. You can safely make 500 rwhp.

Its either I find a mk3 with what I want in it, or I grab an mr2. We'll see, money isnt in good supply with me at the moment, so ive got time to sit back and watch the cars go by.
Ive done the same thing in my celica. Toytoa decided to not put black interiors in the supras/celicas during those years. Mine was burgandy as well. Spend $115 on brand new black carpet (carpet4cars.com) $300 on racing seats (airdynamicracing.com) and $50 on "vynal color" black spray paint (autozone). Interior looks/is brand new.

I properly tuned megasquirt (aka not ass tuned by somebody with an autometer A/F) will guaranteed be better than an SAFC.

Why?

The megasquirt has 3x the tuning ranges for RPM as the sAFC.
It supports any size injectors.
It dosent have to fight with the stock ecu to output the proper fuel quanity (this is a big advantage because you can tune it right to a borderline 12.3 or so without any worry of an occasional spike of detonation between when the stock ECU switches to a different part of the map and the sAFC only has 1 setting for both RPM's).

and the BIGGEST one.

Megasquirt II controls timing.......

I'm sorry, I dont like paying such money for bandaids like the sAFC. I've never seen it to be a serious tuning tool. Ever since enthalpy went from an sAFC on his 240 3-4 years ago to his own homemade rom tune (only 12x12 maps! Not even megasquirt!) He went from 336whp to 396whp.... Massive increase.

havent heard of anyone having problems with the autometer gauge itself, I think its that it didnt have a wideband O2 sensor on it.

Dude, those autometer a/f ratio guages are just flashy lights that do nothing. They connect to stock narrow band sensors that switch off under WOT anyway so they pop out of closed loop mode... Whenever you go WOT they go full green... They dont even have a wideband option. Now they read "Correctly" under cruising conditions, but for a narrowband that means too rich is 10:1 to lean is 17:1 and just right is 14.7:1 There isnt a good resolution for in between so the meter just keeps searching back and forth and dosent really tell you anything..

yea,I have a autometer flashy light thing too. It makes a good hole filler for the second pod in my boost gauge ect. But I agree, the things wouldnt work right even if they were supposed to.Oh btw, on the long drives it does help keep you interested and make you feel like you doing something(placebo effect)
