Small MK3 pll..
This is a ways off for me...... I want to finish my Private Pilot ticket before I buy a pleasure car but...
Heres my dillema.
87-88 can take AEM...
91+ are super pretty inside and out (love the 2nd gen mr2 look alike wheel)
me = torn.
I just dont like the whole sAFC deal.. It is ghetto to me coming from a world of rom tuning and efficency in nissans. I could always go megasquirt to a 89+ but that seems like a TON of hassle however i look at it.
I dunno, what do ya'll think. Prettier but more hassle / man hours.
Or uglier and easier to deal wtih the electronics part of the car.

get a 87-88 and go get 89+ tail lights and wheels and make it look better. plus after 89.5 you get the crappy 7m bottom end that won't rev for shit. i like the 86.5 through 88's. plus you can find them in 2 tone. granted 89 to 92 are sex, but more cruiser than performer. and if you run the 550's with the lexus and s-afc its more than enough, plus you still have toyota reliability.

I'd personally rather go MAF-T with GM MAF than Lexus AFM and SAFC.
Wont rev for shit? Whatever. The only difference between the 6M crank and 7M crank is that the 7M crank is more balanced. I could care less the difference

umm the 7m crank also revs a bit slower because of the added 8lbs and the 6m crank has a higher redline...there IS difference...
you can do what i did and get an 89+ and build an engine with a 6m crank
also AEM is accepted on the 89+s you just need to do a little work but its not THAT hard....
and for the record the MAF-T only allows 5 tuning points....for the most part for SERIOUS tuning you will want to get a s-afc2 anyways to give yourself another 12 tuning points...between the two you basically have everything covered...

iirc aem makes the plug and play standalone for the 89+. not sure if its been released for the 87-88 cars yet. i know it was in developement. also, id personally opt for a 90+ crank. ive been trying to find one in good shape for the other engine im building with no luck so far.
Thanks for the ideas guys. I know I can swap the lights and all but the thing that really turns me on with the later MK3's is the interior...... god it looks good with the airbag wheel and stuff...
I just dont want to have to do a ton of customization to get the car to look good or be plug and play with aem or something.
Maybe I do just haev to suck it up and use an SAFC.....
7m crank vs 6m crank i could really care less... 250rpm change in redline is negligable and I'm sure the engineers did it for a reason. Its very possible those cars have less harmonic balancing problems due to the 7m crank. I dont think it'll hurt my enjoyment of the car at all, or really do anything massive to stop my goals.

Toyota Supra 1987-88 Turbo 30-1110 New Release $2,441.77
Thats straight off of the AEM website.
Idealsupra.. Got any links to people with 89+'s who have adapted this system? What is involved. What do you lose? Gotta be a upside and a downside
