What brand of aircraft aluminum stripper are you using? Usually, the brush-on stuff will take off even the most hardcore powder with a few applications. It's a nasty, vile and disgusting process that always ends up with chemical burns on any exposed skin but it will work out given enough time/patients.

this was just the spray stuff.
im going to try gasket remover next, that stuff took the powdercoat off an sr valve cover pretty easily.
anyone know of any places to get media blasting done?

I don't know if a wheel will fit in our blasting cabinet but I think that Pro-Coat in Tampa will be able to do it for you. Glass beading might not be for you, however, as it does change the surface a bit, causing you to go through a few extra sanding steps.
I've had mixed results with the spray. It's good for some surfaces while it lacks on others. Usually, I get the jug of goo, apply it with a foam brush and let it sit for 15-20 minutes in the shade. On the second coat, I do the same but I use a stainless wire brush to create more surface area for the remover to bite into. Don't use a brass brush as that will discolor the aluminum creating more work for you in the end.

well, im already at the "more work" stage, since i couldnt get the paint off, and had to sand the scratches out. i figured if i can get it blasted with something not too abrasive maybe it will work better? i dunno.
this sucks.
this sucks.
Glass beading is okay but it does embed little shattered glass particles into the soft aluminum which should be taken out. Note I said "should be."
