Datsun Dreaming
exactly what I was about to say.
That wheel is hanging, not on the ground with the stock or modified camber setting. A wheel hanging actually makes it look like your sticking out the 2*(12mm) more.
And actually, my front wheels were set at only -1* camber because if not my tire rubbed.
And then we go to your 17x8 +40. My 17x8 +35 w/ 5mm spacer (+30mm effective) has a full finger of play room in the front fender. Add that to the back, and the extra 10mm or so you have for clearance, and your 1/2" from the fender with stock camber/alignment settings.
just saying

Like I said, its not hanging, its jacked up by the LCA, and never had the weight of the car taken off of it, its an 8.5 +40, not an 8+40, even if you took the wheel in 12mm, you are still going to have the edge of the tire there, and like I said before him wanting a 7" rim pretty well eliminates running a stretched tire to gain clearance. With something like your 9" wheel, yes you've got room to run a small tire and have your wheel lip that close without the tire hitting, with a 7" wheel, if he wants any sort of resemblance to traction, a stretched tire isnt nearly as much of a viable option.
Now for my 9" wheel, I'm running 215/45/17 with a track of 8.4" width. Not quite a stretch, and it fits.

But he would have no need to stretch a tire, I just said that I had 15x7 +0 on my car with coils and arms dialed in to stock settings. 205/50/15 tire, no rubbing issues, the exact opposite of stretch and it was fine.

You hadnt edited your post to include your actual wheel setup with the 15's, again, a little tire, a 205/50/15 is only a 23" tire, you could run almost anything for offset and not have it hit anything.
And yes a 215 is a stretch on a 9" wheel, you've got a tire sized for a 7-7.5" wheel, on a 9" wheel, put something even close to reasonable (a 245) on there, which is undersized compared to what most factory cars with a 9" wheel run, and you are going to have issues.
Please keep in mind, its great that you are rolling around on a stock KA, but even a lightly modified SR is capable of running bottom 13's in the 1/4 stock, and can benefit from some extra traction.
A little bit, but not by much, its supported by the jack under the LCA, ride height on my car is pretty high. Either way i've seen quite a few pictures of R32GTR wheels which at 16x8+30 I wouldnt want to go any further outward especially with any decent tire on there, him wanting to run something as narrow as a 7" wheel pretty much eliminates running a stretched tire unless he wants jack for traction, a bunch of negative camber will put him in the same area ya know ?
and i dont think youve actually driven on stretched tires, it seems you think that once a tire isnt bulging over the sidewalls that its instantly like driving on banana peels.
I thought you were just running 10mm front spacers in the pictures I asked you about, and they looked about flush, but its been a while since i've seen them as the wonderful HP laptop I have them on died, either way, IMO it looked pretty damn good and not sunken.
Either way I dont know how much I believe the rears being sunken with a 15mm spacer, I can easily see where the 8.5+40 with no spacer is at that i've got bolted to my car at the moment, *shrug*, at any rate when it comes down to time for me to buy wheels i'll be going with a 9-9.5" rear, and 8" front, with all the offset I can get without the wheel actually touching the coilover
That's exactly what I'm going for. Maybe a 215 on the back if I go 15x7F and 15x7.5R.
Its not so much the matter of them being stretched, its running a tire that narrow in the first place, my car was on 215's, and while I did manage to cut a couple sub 2.0 60' times at the track, which required a bunch of careful footwork, most of the time giving enough throttle to push those times resulted in some wheelspin, I certainly could have benefited from a wider tire and merely had an SR with fmic, clutch, filter, full exhaust, and a J30 lsd.
Like I said, stretch, is fine, a little bit of stretch generally looks great, much better than tire bulge, square or slightly stretched is nice, but running itty bitty tires is going to result in less traction.
