ls1 and "dumber youth days"
if he actually decided to run a decent supercharger, all be it a centrifugal, he'd give you a run for your money...say a D1 on which is what most everyone runs on the f-bodies and always seem to end up right around 500 with nothing else done.

if more people would actually buy the smaller pulley from magnuson instead of keeping their kits at 4-7psi (which is still 420-480rwhp) youd see a lot more 550-600rwhp magnacharged cars running around. but then you start breaking other shit, which is why they sell them the way they do. put it on, and beat the shit out of your car no worries.

people these days get too hung up on numbers, and being elitist or top dog. most fail to realize they have entirely too much power, especially on a street car, and this includes drag racing cars. most can improve a whole lot with driver skill and proper vehicle setup, in the other areas besides big numbers. i'd rather have a 250-300whp KA that i can (and have for 23 months) beat on daily, constantly, without fail, and deliver respectable numbers, rather than have a *insert number between 450-800 here* HP car, with a possible crap powerband and more thoughts of "will/when is this going to fail?". (there are always the exceptions remember)
as for LS1, there's a reason you see it more and more. if it was a shitty motor, it wouldn't be the new trend. last weekend alone i saw one in a '57 bel air (omfg), a miata, and another FD RX-7 (in "BFE" Lakeland, none the less).
i've always had my doubts about domestic quality, but i still hold true alot of it has to do with my views on their fit and finish, and quality of body and interior parts (cavalier steering wheel == c5 vette wheel
).as for ls1 into s chassis car...why not? i would have one right now if they got one to have functional air conditioning (or if i had a daily driver), and im sure its possible. the powerband? yes please. the sound? yes please (i still prefer inline 6 but its just not a feasible swap i like in an S chassis). the simplicity? yes please. i could go on. and this is all stock with bolt-ons, that never ever will compromise the longevity and reliability of any engine if done right.
it's like this:
you have some shelves. one has stock KA, one has SR, RB, etc etc. shelves are metaphorically the "floor" of each motor...u can only go up in performance from each. where does the LS1 go? oh yeah, build that shelf above the others. now, you could build another shelf above the LS1 with say, a dodge v10 from a viper...since it would start out higher in the power chain/shelf lol...but im talking engines that actually fit in a 240, and have been done.
and im not swinging on the ls1 crowd, i dont have the money or time for this. but the more i think about it, the more i like it. practical.
