Bottom end rebuild...
yOu need to do a good set of pistons, and a good bore and hone, with the correct piston to wall clearances, and new rings.
from there, all new bearings and seals throughout, a new head gasket, and some head studs too.
build the motor right, invest the time and money into it, and it will treat you well.

Since only 3 of the pistons were damaged, I just replaced those, and had the shop hone and put new rings in it, with new bearings. I did the arp head studs myself, and everything else with the motor. Something's definatly wrong with it to be smoking like that though. Massive blowby.
ah.
different ways of doing things i guess.
if you would have just put in a set of forged pistons and had the machine work done right the first time, the motor would be basically indestructable, and this problem wouldn't be here.

Thanks everyone. And Matt... I know man, I don't have 1g to lay down into pistons, and even more to lay into the rebuild so I opted for the less producted 400 dollar route. Things just kept piling up as far as expenses go...
So now im up to over 500 bucks, AND I get to pull the motor again. Shop insists it's the head. So Im taking them the whole motor.

Motor is out, and will be dropped off tuesday at the shop. Im taking them the entire motor, manifolds and all. Im going to instruct them to find the problem, and reassemble the engine as it was brought to them. If it is thier error, I want it done under warranty.
If it is something else, like something wrong with the head, as they suggest. Then I'll eat the costs. Which wont be cheap.

Motor is now in thier hands. I hope to see it back this week. If not early next week. Lord only knows what insanity lies with in the motor that they may, or may not take blame to.
I was tempted to tear it apart myself and see if there were in fact any rings in the motor.
Alas in fear it would void their "warranty" I kept it all in one piece and brought it to them.
