I have a feeling it was a little of both. They forsaw the future of the SR20 in the s13 chassis, and went with that. Then of course, the 180 in Japan was "upgraded" to a larger engine, while the "180" appeared as smaller than it was, while the European model was right on the money.
too much thinking, gotta go.
later.

how about i'm right because the nissan literature out in europe says it too..... lemmie try to dig up the links. They admitted it was a marketing stragety due to the european standard of naming a vehicle after its displacement...

--EDIT CAUSE I CAN'T READ--

The CA motor is cheap, but in the long run, you will probably spend about the same amount of $$ due to readily available and whored out pricing on SR aftermarket parts.

The CA can be a powerful motor if done right. It can rev to 9000 rpm with just valvesprings installed. (some say that it can hit 9000 on stock valvesprings). I take mine to a safer 8000-8500.

The only reason why I am selling my motor is because I am tired of dealing with issues cause by not doing things right the first or second time around. Otherwise, I'm loving it at 24 PSI and 8500 RPM shifts. Check out some pics of my motor at http://enjukuracing.com/ray.html .

Oh yea, whatever you do , do NOT disable the butterflys. Ot is not the time/effort for the little gain in the top end in trade for the lack of torque down low!!!
