The project that never ends...
The main reason I ask is because no balance shafts can lead to high oil pressure. When you are feeding the turbo directly from the oil filter housing (souce of highest pressure oil) you can easily see 100+ psi in that unrestricted line...I had that problem with my car when I got it. The p/o fed it straight off the filter housing and it was causing the turbo to smoke at high rpm/boost.

Wheres the fine line of street/drag car Jerry? Shep's car was a street car for the longest time when it was an 8 sec. car. Most DSM'ers aim for 500+ daily driven. IF they aren't even close to that, they will be one day. A fully built 2.3 stroker has plenty of potential to be a drag car or a street car or both. My main point is, when ever you build a motor, you're supposed to balance the rotating assembly anyway right? The harmonic balancer keeps everything in spec, not the balance shafts. The balance shafts were clearly to get rid of unwanted vibrations and that was the ONLY reason. The balance shafts had nothing to do with balance of the bottom end.
sheps car was a trailered drag car long before it was ever in the 9s. only thing it had to do with being a street car was the street car class it ran in. he did not drive that car daily at all.
balancing the rotating assembly has nothing to do with the harmonics created in a four cylinder engine. a perfectly balanced engine still vibrates like crazy without balance shafts. engine bolts back out, oil filters come loose (aint pretty at 100mph) fly wheels come loose.

This isn't an arguement about balance shafts. The dude wants help and input. The fact is people go about cars completely differant. You can go to ten differant people and get ten differant answer on why the cars doing what it's doing. There are alot of people running with balance shafts, at the same time tho there's plenty of people running without them Everyone I know without them however haven't ran into issues because the fact tho. Just another thing that is a judgement call made by the owner of the car..not wikipedia..
I'm all ears. In this case, if it's in, it's in. If not, then it's not. From the looks of it I'll be ok either way, right?

Everyone, even shops, have always told me that the balance shafts were to get rid of vibrations inside the car. Not to "balance" the bottom end. I eliminated my balance shafts and barely noticed any difference. I havn't had a single bolt or oil filter or anything back out on me. From my own experience I got nothing but good out of eliminating them. and I will always continue to eliminate them in my dsm's. Oh, and shep even said in one of his interviews that he used to drive the talon to work every so often when it was an 9 sec car. Trailered to the track, yeah that'd be smart incase it breaks, doesnt mean its not street driven.
If you cant tell when you have removed your shafts I dont know what to say to that. It is immediately noticeable to me. If you havent had any bolts back out that just tells me your engine hasnt put many miles down.
I am done with this discussion as my intelligence and experience is of no use to you.
