i was just sayin its not absolutely certain that it can only be the waterpump, but that would be the next step. i mean i know theres generally a small handful of things that can go wrong in a cooling system, but sometimes its not only a matter of a bad thermostat or waterpump. ive seen this problem happen before and it turned out the radiator was clogged with all kinds of crap, now thats probably pretty rare, but just another thing to keep in mind if the waterpump and thermostat dont work. but it sounds like hes not doing the work, so i dont think theres any explaining to do, but its always good to learn what you can, any legitimate ideas help ya know.

and if you want to learn to do a timing belt/waterpump, the best time to learn is when the engine is out of the car, so keep that in mind if you ever get a new engine.

I know. The "but" was misplaced. I only meant to condition him/her to think changing the water pump him/herself was a bad idea.

You could take out the thermostat completly and try running the car to see if that improves. mine went out on me in orlando while i was on I-4 heading back home to Tampa. Only thing I had to do was take it out and it ran fan. so try that, if the gauge is back at normal temps then that means thats all it was. go get a new one. they're like 7 bucks. if thats not it then yea its the water pump. and your water pump is located right below ur cam gears. i dont know why people even post if its not beneficial in any way...
