I agree

Downshifting when coming to a complete stop is just goofy. If I'm in 5th gear, I'm not going to row down through every one just so I can stop.

Now, if I'm in 4th, and need to slow down for a corner, I will rev-match/heel-toe, etc.

Downshift (rev-match) one gear, then clutch in around 1500. The tC has a crappy electric gas pedal that lags and has no feel, so there's a minimum of rev matching and funny business at a light. The 240sx gets all manner of crazy shifting techniques in the turns, but still only drop one gear at lights.

works pretty good.

My Tempo did that, when it decided to stall regularly IN GEAR. In an automatic. I was driving along, and it shut off, I popped it in neutral, coasted off the road, back into park, turn the key, get back on the road.

Girlfriend's friend was like, wow...quick thinking. I was like, wow, the car f*****g stalled. Shitty damn automatic. At least with a manual, I can rev it so it stays running. Or at the very least, start it back up while driving (you know, put it in 3rd or 4th, pop the clutch)

Driving a manual, I tend to stay back, and coast up to lights. I like to be able to drop it into second or third, and get moving again. If it's obviously going to be backed up even when I get there, I just put it in neutral and begin braking.

And I don't hit my damn brake unless I intend to slow down, or stop. None of the damn tap-tap-tapping my brake just because I'm unsure. I either use it, or stay off the damn pedal!

I downshift at times just because I love the sound but I try not to because I dont feel like replacing a clutch any time soon. Is it bad to pull in/out of gear without the clutch (if the rmps are right, I can go in and out of every gear with no grind or anything)

+1 on engine braking being stupid and only used to show off. The streets arent a race circuit...engine braking does not do anything other then put unneeded wear on parts. Id rather change the brakes/rotors then a motor/clutch.

Those of u that think its cool to engine brake never change a motor or clutch. When u do...u will think twice about engine braking.
