As much as I'll get flamed at. I'm glad there's a new law coming out.

Listen guys......., yes, I'll do some street racing once in a while, but not like anything you guys do up in TAmpa, i.e. Gandy for example or Dale Malbry.

It is far stupid yet dumb when you have a young unexperence kid that drive some new mustang that his/her parents gave them for High school graduation.

On top, when you get someone who's under a certain unmature level, you think you own the street by someone who built it hardcore. Next thing you know, he blows a tire and hitting a innocent car in the opposite direction. The innocent car can be YOU or someone you love so much, like your girlfriend that has your baby!!!!. Now who are you going to blamed!!! The ricer kid, yourself or the state!!!

Don't know, that how I feel nowadays. And yes, there are other important things that duputies can do, but their job is to "serve and to protect". Their attidude changes due to immature idiots (like the ones you can find here).

Sorry if I piss off someone, but thats how I feel at times. On top, knowing alot of cops and see how they feel about it. No one is to blamed buy society itself.

From what I understand, if you read in between the lines, this new law will give cops the ability to take your license because you have a "racing" style of car (Mustang, graphics, even custom exhausts). How could they get away with this? Well, just look at your car! You're obviously racing because of the type of car you drive.

blah. shouldnt cops be out arresting rapists, robbers, murderers and drunks rather than having about 7 cop cars parked at sonic where the kids are doing nothing but talking about cars and enjoying a decent meal?? last sat, a guy lifted his hood on his comaro for 2 min because a guy was interested in buying it and this dildo cop comes prancing over complaining that it wasnt a "car show" and that he needed to drop the hood...o well taylor warned him it would happen

I'm not sure if that would work. Its kinda like when an undercover cop instigates a street race - people want to claim "entrapment" but in court a cop is always right. But with Jonny on the case anything is possible!!!

Anyone know what the penalties are for a DUI/DWI in comparison to streetracing?? Are the penalties more stiff, more lenient or the same...

I think if you build 10 1/4 mile tracks in Pinellas County, people will still street race on the way to and from the track. I have found myself participating in speed contests and have to remind myself I have my own family to think about, not to mention somebody else's. I do not like the law either, but I think this is what it has come to because of the carelessness of a few. I have also been hassled by the police, and that is the price I pay for driving a Mustang. Lets face it, we drive fast cars because we like to drive fast. But, I have also been hassled for having dark window tint on my SHO. I think the police do their job, and sometimes, you get the ocassional jerk. I will close with this, I like to drive my Mustang fast, and the windows on my SHO are too dark!!!

A little side note for all the younger people out there, a good friend of mine from back in the mustang days just lost his license for 5 years because he and a friend were both in 4 cylinder 5 speed trucks, and dumped the clutch off a light. They both let out after they cleared the intersection and to them it was just a joke (he used to have a high 9 second mustang) but the cop that saw them didn't think so, so he was issued a racing on the highway (or whatever the term is now) ticket/order to appear in court. Problem is, back in the mid to late 90's he got two other racing tickets, so they treated him as a habitual offender, and he lost his license for 5 YEARS. It's not something that clears off your license in 3 years, yes the points go away, but the racing tickets accumulate over your life time, kinda like DUI's. I just had a background check done because of a finance company I am signing up with, and part of it includes you driving record, I remembered having one racing ticket, but it turns out I had two, so now if I ever get one, no license for 5 years!! Careful, the things you do today will be with you for life. And don't look for me at the races any time soon, but I think everybody already knew that

Good point, I kinda tend to think that because we have two tracks in our general vicinity, racing is more popular around here, so, which came first, the chicken or the egg? The tracks aren't going to be open 24/7, and people always want to race, I think if there was a 1/4 mile track in the middle of Pinellas, and one in the middle of Hillsborough, street racing would be just as popular, maybe even more so because more people would be exposed to racing. Just my .02, I know everyone sees it different. Bottom line is it's always been done, and will always be done, just now it's going to cost alot more.
