And most cops just seem to be clueless these days.
I have not seen a "street race" in years, just a shitload of kids driving wreckless in POS cars they think are fast. Or the typical 70-150mph+ roll races with 3 beeps. Who the hell started that gay shit anyways? Theres no honking in racing...wtf!
Who knows maybe 5-10 years from now it will be different but as for now Tampa is just DONE.

I'm new here, but I figure'd I'd give my opinion anyways. Street racing is liiegal for good reason. It is dangerous and too many people who engage in it seem to lack the common sense necessary to reduce the risks. There are too many stories about dumb kids racing thorugh busy intersections and killing people for the legislature to ignore. That being said, I think this new law, as I understand it from this thread is a bad idea. It is too broad in scope and will ruin the lives of people who own fast cars and DON"T street race. If a cop sees me going to the track with my car that has a much louder than stock exhaust, slapper bars, wide tires, etc, he can say I am a street racer by his discrecion if I happen to pull away from a stoplight a little more quickly than the GEO beside me while not racing anyone. Any time we give the government the ability to paint with a wide brush, people's rights inevitably get trampled on. This law set's a bad legal precident and should be stopped. Unfortunately, no one will oppose it, because to oppose it is to say you are for street racing, which is political suicide. People who own modified cars are a small and non vocal minority and until this changes, we will continue to be mischaricterized and have our rights trampled on.
As for there being plenty of tracks, I live in south Pasco. The drive to Sunshine is 30-45 minutes for me. Bradenton is 1.5-2 hours away. Where are all of these race tracks for me to use? Where am I supposed to go when the state DOT bulldozes Sunshine and puts a road through there? Bradenton? Lakeland? Orlando? I'd prefer not to go to any of these tracks since I drive my car to the track. I don't have a trailer and if my car breaks at the track, I will end up paying to have it towed home. Last time I had a fuel pump failure at Sunshine it cost me $120 to get it home. This elected official needs to do his research and get his facts straight. If they think street racing is a problem now, wait until the only track in the Tampa Bay area is closed.
