I really like the way this discussion has turned out. I don't wanna put words in anyones mouths, but I'm pretty sure we could get between 3-6 drivers up from Ft. Myers/Naples area for events. My car will be back on the road soon, and then it's going to be auto-x time for me, and learning to drift will follow.

I apperciate the way you admins are trying to clean up this forum, I haven't felt comfortable posting in here, even though I own a "drift" car.

Many places that allow auto-x's don't allow drifting, because it tears up the pavement. When SS helped sponsor the first DDay, we weren't allowed to return to that facility due to what happened to the area. Keep in mind, this is the same place that the sunriders hold their auto-x's, and where the st pete pd trains their officers.

I can't say I can commit to help setting up an event, but I can commit to assisting. It takes a lot of time to set one of these up, time that I may not have shortly. If anyone has ideas as to where it could be held, let us know.
John is on to a good point, but the problem with current autocross venues is this.

The style of drifting requires it to have large sweeping turns. You MUST have a very large radius skidpad to make this effectively work. otherwise you will have a few u turns, and a 90 here or there, and while it's great for forcing grip out of a car in enabling a fast time, or a competition over time, this just doens't translate to 'fun' for drifting.

If you have tight courses, that's fine, but know that you're going to
1) have kids in the grass all day, that will really cut down on the amoutn of track time everyone gets
2) have upset facility owners because they have to spend a grip in sod
3) have people complaining that it's not fun (big angle , tire smoke = fun)

There are skid pads you can rent that allow quite possibly the most fun you can ever have in a vehicle, I promise.

And there are training facilities you can rent out as well.

But cone fees and startup fees aside, (which would be covered by getting sponsors) , it will still cost a pretty penny to get out there.

Couple that with the fact that anything that has the word DRIFT fetches a 3-4x premium on the insurances and you start to see why children won't pay for the events.

And honestly, my view towards motorsports is this:

If you can't afford to do it, or are crying about not beign able to afford stuff for your car / events / etc, then maybe you should re-evaluate your life, your priorities, and your career in order to participate in what you want, and not cry about affording it.

just my $.02. but maybe that $.02 may be worth a little more, considering I did take a huge part in organizing the first ever drift event in Florida.

find a decent size lot that doesnt mind skid marks on their concrete and decent pricing for the rental, and the rest is cake.

It's very possible, and not too difficult for someone with the resources and the know-how.

It's just a matter of finding an appropriate venue.

I'll gladly help and give my input/opinions if you'd like them...just let me know if you'd like me to help.
