When I researched and approached to have 1 event, you need a few K$ at least. The hardest thing to clear is liability like spottedmangoo said. Its not as easy as drag racing. we need a lot of appriciation to who organize drift events for us.

I usually don't post in this neck of the woods because of the poor attitudes. After seeing on the home page that Zate had a recent post, I came in to see what is going on.
A few years ago I had experimented on the street a few times with drifting so I decided to check out some events. I attended DDayI & II and wanted to get into the sport of drifting. When I heard people talking trash in the audience about Bill while he was doing some absolutely incredible things with the SR Miata at DDII, I knew this wasn't the sport for me and got into other automotive sports/events. I hope for the sake of this sport in our region that some grassroots efforts can be made like the kind that Kyle made to organize DDII down in Palmetto. It was a great event with the right mind set in the organizers, but not in the crowds.. it all leads back to attitude. Take pride in ownership of your sport.

Regardless, I think everyone agree's its not a simple easy thing to do, doesnt mean its impossible but outside of Forumla D, the sport has very little support.. which is dissapointing because without a grassroots movement the sport doesnt have much of a future, where are the next generation of local drivers going to come from if there arent any events for them to develop their skills in ?
If anyone has any contacts that might assist in finding out how to get something going, let me know in a PM. Likewise if you've ran an event or are interested in running another.
Thats why I ask the question about who would orginize the event. Becuase I sure as hell am not going to do it.

How about you set one up? I have nothing to gain by setting up a drifting event. The only thing I would gain is: Grief, complaints, and piss poor attitudes. Can anyone see why I am not rushing out to start a drifting event?

actually one of the only times I'll give you credit John - you are 100% correct.
You know, I remember when Matt was a drag racer in his z31, Taylor thought imports were crap (and had a Vortec truck), when Rob used to have his G20. Did anyone of these guys give a damn about drifting? No... and they damn sure weren't the first ones to do it, either. You all start somewhere, be it a Miata, a stock s14 drifting on wet pavement, or S13's sliding into street signs. Everybody starts somewhere, takes from others, watched initial D, and nobody knows it all. The elitist attitude isn't going to fly, and those that keep flossing it are the first to go.

Dear god do I remember all of that.
Theres NOTHING wrong with people asking questions thats how you learn. Why I get so upset with Taylor when I work on cars around him. Cause I didn't come out of the Womb with a wrench or a steering wheel in my hand as some people think they did.
You ask questions, you try things out you use your resources (your friends) and you learn from all of those things. Theres no wrong way to ask a question you know nothing about. It's like someone asking me about breakdancing, would I call them a dick or make fun of them. No if you're serious about learning and want me to show you a few things I'm all for it.
Shitty "I'm the cool kid" attitudes is what seperates people from a common things we all love. I got shit for selling my 240 and I told everyone to fuck off. I wanted to concentrate on my clothing. What did I do? Go out and bought a honda that I modded. I'm at square one again. It takes making mistakes and your own decisions to learn. Just as it does as taking advice from your friends.
I for one still read the drift forums and I'm glad the BS is getting cleaned up and useless posts are being deleted, "drifter or no drifter"
Thank you Mods.

I don't get the hostily here... so your saying you don't want to help with the event in anyway but going to it... not that that's not a good thing to pay your money and go, believe me I know fl fails because of a lack of drifters coming up with the 100$ plus getting to the event that 2hours plus away, but it also fails because of people like you that won't help set up events.
I'll admint I don't know what all you have to go thru, that's why I said contact dg and sponsor them (or even talk to the guys that put on osw and have them do a tampa thing) but if someone from tr does know and want to try I'd damn sure help if needed and also pay to for entry to slid...(or make a fool out of myself trying lol)
