and yet who would organise it ?.. there is merit in the idea, a drift event for the normal people, much like autox's are for the normal people. Problem is they tend to be very difficult to organise and most importantly, get done safely and legally. Insurance and a place to hold it would be the hardest parts.
I have no problem with a TR sponsored drift event. Questions are, like zate said:
*) Who would organize the event?
*) Who wold run the event?
*) How much would the event cost us?
*) Who would organize the event?
*) Who wold run the event?
*) How much would the event cost us?

hahahahahahaha........Zate, is more than happy to ban at own request.
A TR Spocored event wouldn't be half bad .....the think is MORE events would be nice.....ANY!!! If we could get more ppl motivated enough to have a parking lot to rip up or a track to have fun at. Then at least we would have something to talk about. The most resent event that everyone in here could take place in was like 10 mts ago.

the easiest way I can think of would be to talk to the dgtrials guys, since this is what they do for a living, have them set it up and put tr's name all over it.... somewhere in tampa would be great.
from the little I've talked to them, they seem to be trying really hard to get back into florida. together if we could pull of the sun dome parking lot or hcc, or hell anything close to a drift event in tampa that would be a good thing... as far is I've seen dg gets coverage in the drift mags(not sure about just the pratices) and having tr/tf in any mag is a good thing for new members on both sides.
what about matt or rob and those guys? they've set stuff up in the past right? how did you guys do it? step up where bill has failed.

A few things to consider -
Events – I have looked into it briefly, but I think someone like Kyle should chime in; he should be able to enlighten everyone with his experience. From personal experience, it is not as easy as everyone thinks in order to get an event up and running. I have approached a few places that hold sanctioned events, besides your normal insurance, money, etc, a lot of these places also look at the organizer's experience. If you are trying to organize an event, most places require and look at what you have done in the past. Other possible locations, such as the dog track and other possible venues are a little harder to approach due to liability reasons. Of course on top of all this, money might also become an issue.
Members – It good to see that there are actually people standing up to those that think they are above the ‘law’. It’s depressing that the same people in which a certain amount of members look up to are the actual ones that causes the headaches. There should be a level of humbleness, with that in mind; there should be no reason to cause havoc in which I believe what’s exactly happening. Those people believe that if you don’t drift or if you own a FWD vehicle, and any other BS reason, should stay out of the drifting forum…..it’s almost like saying, hey, don’t come and support Formula D events if you don’t drift, attempt to drift, own a drift car, etc.
All these ‘noob’ talk, I have never really understood what this is about. If TR retained its original 100 members or whatever, how would a community such as TR grow? There will always be new members with the same questions that will be asked over and over again, I think it’s the nature of a community forum such as TR. Get over it already

+1.....
the event setup seems to be the hardest thing to work with. If autocross events can be held all over central Florida, Im sure those same locations, hell even event promoters can help set up a drift event right?

autocross events have the SCCA behind them usually and have been around for a long time.
AutoX events also tend to attract a lot more experienced or older crowd..
Drifting lacks something like the SCCA to help with the grassroots movement and getting new people started.
