A few years ago I had experimented on the street a few times with drifting so I decided to check out some events. I attended DDayI & II and wanted to get into the sport of drifting. When I heard people talking trash in the audience about Bill while he was doing some absolutely incredible things with the SR Miata at DDII, I knew this wasn't the sport for me and got into other automotive sports/events. I hope for the sake of this sport in our region that some grassroots efforts can be made like the kind that Kyle made to organize DDII down in Palmetto. It was a great event with the right mind set in the organizers, but not in the crowds.. it all leads back to attitude. Take pride in ownership of your sport.

this guy is a 100% right on why drifting fails in florida.

we need to stop that shit

I'll admint I don't know what all you have to go thru, that's why I said contact dg and sponsor them (or even talk to the guys that put on osw and have them do a tampa thing) but if someone from tr does know and want to try I'd damn sure help if needed and also pay to for entry to slid...(or make a fool out of myself trying lol)
its not really hostility its just me knowing that i dont have the knowldge or connections to throw an event. So i help in the way i can. by paying the costs to make the events possible.

thats my way of contributing. and thats alot more then many can say

actually zate, SCCA backs formula D.

all other organizations, drift fury, US drift, DGtrials, etc are all privately ran

The only thing stopping people from setting up events is money. that's it. I know of 10-15 venues I could get for a drift event if I had the money. The price to do it would be similar to a sebring track day. 250-300.00

The children won't pay it. plain and simple.

btw thanks for pointing out the SCCA - Forumula D link Mark, wasnt aware of it. I'll have to talk to some SCCA folks i know and find out why there are no grassroots drifting events, only the Formula D stuff.

I am thinking the venue and track setup would be somewhat similar, the tech and cars some what similar the only real diff is not using a timing system. Am I missing something ?

oh and i know the maturity level of the participants blah blah blah .. lets assume its the same. Lets assume its the same set of people going to both events.

my only guess on this, is that the cars look out of control... so they think the risk of hurting people is much higher than with an autocross...

I will add that this is the best chance I've seen in a long time to get a tampa event done... we have tr/tf asking how much it would cost them... DC saying they would put their name into it.

hey matt... are these places road course or parking lots? if its parking lots...why so much?

Zate, I think the answer to your question lies at the initial investment of a person/company starting up an event. Cones, barricades, and all other material needed in order to get a successful event up and running. After the initial cost, I think it would flow a lot smoother, both event wise and also expense wise. We are more then willing to set something up, but without prior experience, I honestly have no idea where to even start.
