Remember insurance? We're doing something "dangerous" in a country where you can get a million dollars for skinning your knee. Or where anything that hurts a single person is immediately illegal.

Go to a foreign country and try to get money because you fell and hurt yourself at the grocery. Not gonna happen. This is why drifting here is $$$.

Anyhow, I'm a little short on cash so I think I'll go spill coffee on myself
Seriously, I think the reason ocala is used is becuase of insurance and why parking lot drift events arent as big in FL. Lawyers suck, if America wasnt so sue happy then we could probably throw events without insurance.

I guess i was overlooking drifting from a cost perspective, so you guys are right to a extent, still nothing cheap about resleeving engines , forced induction , supporting modifications, slicks e.t.c. All forms of motorsports are pay to play sports.

not saying youre wrong at all. but that would be someone going after a low et, or high trap speed.
you can be VERY competitive at a completely stock level, as long as the car is consistent.
me and my dad used to go to the drag races every friday for about 3-4 years, in street class, never once had to replace a part due to racing in that time. granted it isnt as fun as going a billion miles an hour, but in bracket racing, speed isnt important, consistency, and driving are.

that being said, drag racing is boring, and puts me to sleep.

I put in a lot of time and effort and I don't even get paid for what I do so that you guys can participate and have a safe/police harassment free environment to "play" in (which is fine with me). When it comes to DG, we really don't make much money on events anyway. $1350 + 600 wouldn't even cover rental at most places. If we lived in a nation where everyone with a big parking lot was willing to rent it out on the cheap so that kids can lay down lines of tire it would really help out when it comes to cost, but this just ain't the case. Real estate in Tampa Bay is expensive and that sure doesn't help.

I think the comparison and trade-offs between track and street drifting are pretty aparent, and "free" becomes a relative term.

We're always trying to figure out ways to get you guys more "bang for the buck" at DDays, and there will even most likely be one or two changes in how they are run at the upcoming Oct 15th DDay8. At the last event we were at a price of $90 for 15 laps = $6/lap. I think the goal would to be to get that number down to something like $3/lap (30 laps at $90/event). I think that we can accomplish this in due time once we can make events run like a well oiled machine and participants help facilitate rapid lapping action.

I have a lot to say about the topic, but would really like to hear what you folks think. Don't think I'm not keeping an eye on this thread...

I say we should let 3-4 people run on the track at the same time, for more seat time, experience drifting with other cars, and just to get us in a regular routine, where no one will be complaining.

i say 2, 3 at most on the track... it's a big track... obviously at the majority of the skill level, they shouldnt tandem... but i think u can get more than one car on the track at the same time...

so lets say u get a few runs where u have to stop mid drift because the person in front spins out... i would say it's worth it because you would be getting so many more runs in...

yeah..like in japan...multiple cars at one time..drivers should be int he right mind set and not tail a beginner just to make them more nervous...

its like at ebisu...just drift around the person if they spin out

Boo hoo. Open track days cost 3x or 4x more than a drift practice and you NEVER see people bitching about those prices.

You guys are also saying that you don't like the tracks so you want the events to be cheaper? Build a track then! If you think that event organizers are gonna operate at a loss so you can be happy, you're wrong. You guys would crap if you knew how much it was to rent Sebring, Daytona, or Homestead...$100 per driver wouldn't come close to covering the cost of events at those facilities and insurance costs for those places is a whole other problem...IF you can even manage to get insurance. We'd need FAR more driver participation for that to happen.

That's a complaint of mine...driver participation and attitude in this state. You want more? Put in more. Show up to events, even as a spectator. If you're not supporting the scene, you're harming the scene. Drifting will never grow if people are too busy bitching instead of participating. Once it grows, things will only get better. We should be thankful that we even have organizers like DGT and Ter-Tech who are dedicated to making this sport grow. Not every state has drift events let alone 2 organizations hosting them. And how about grassroots drift competitions with good prize money and prizes? Tell me where else you can find that for $100 or less per competition, please.

The funny thing is, the people you see out at almost every event, the "regulars" if you will, never complain...EVER. They may offer suggestions for improvements but 9x out of 10 they sing songs of thanks and praise. Go figure.

<3 Ter-Tech and DGT for even giving us something to complain about.
