i agree with both sides, lane splitting should be legal, its been proven to work in cali like dkutin said and as long as the bikers do it within reason it can be very safe, aka keep a safe speed and don't try squeezing in between anything stupid. But at the same time you would have people acting like idiots when doing it sooner or later making the rest of bikers look bad. I've done lots of looking into it in the past and from what i've read it helps a lot of traffic and bikers, and most people can control themselves enough to do it responsibly (if traffic starts moving you get back in with it, don't do it at speeds higher than 30, mainly bumper to bumper scenarios). And BAMF who says that for the person hauling ass through a traffic jam who gets hit, well thats with any scenario played out on a bike where they're acting stupid.

its not worth it...ive seen quite a few motorcycle accidents.

and if you guys want tickets by all means..lane split

its not legal for a reason...traffic in California is MUCH MUCH MUCH more worse than it is here.

just obey the traffic laws....what the fuck is so hard about that?

smartass

i ride safe because i value my life and job.

i get a ticket i lose my job...plain and simple...so i dont have room to screw around anymore.

plus after you see brains and body parts scattered across the road it makes you value your life a bit more...your not as invincible as you once though...

CA drivers are much safer and more aware than FL drivers. Lane splitting here, legal or not, is Russian roulette.

Also, no need for the tag flipper, just hide the tag in the first place... Cops hate that they cant do anything about it except give a $70 ticket. Can u see the tag on my bike? nope

In my world, having my body parts smeared across 3 lanes of traffic is an acceptable risk. I'm not suicidal. I'm not crazy. In fact, I consider myself rather sane. I've just come to the realization in my short years on the planet that shit happens. You could do everything exactly right, and something will come out of the blue and smash you down.

In other words, in the end, the fear may not keep me alive. I'm absolutely terrified of getting maimed and surviving only to live as a quad. Getting smeared across the street is much more attractive to me than snapping my spine.

I'm not in the medical feild at all, however, I've seen a few motorcycle crashes first hand; been down myself 3 times. Both of my parents are critical care nurses with experience in the OR and ER, and as a family we've all come to the same conclusion. We have no intention of ending up in the hospital. Its much easier to end up out of the picture all together. It doesnt seem that scary to me atm.

Shit happens.

CA drivers are much safer??? show me a statistic proving that and ill believe it. if its a 100 degrees outside and traffic is at a dead stop im lane splitting dont really care am i gonna be doing 30 40 mph no 10 15 maybe that is a safe enough speed to see things coming and also stop if necessery IMO. but to each there own i guess....flame me!!!!

not being able to lane split is just another case of cops only enforcing the laws they want to.. which is pretty much the easy ones that make the city the most money. like getting a group of buddys together and making a game outta random speed traps. where it isn't needed. which they really do get a kick out of. if we were allowed to lane split and cops pulled over the ones doing it unsafe, then they wouldn't do it anymore. or atleast be in the system and pay a much of money in tickets. most people break over time from tickets.

but no, just because a few bikers will be going to fast while lane spliting so none of us car do it.

its kinda like the gun laws.. if you take the all guns away, only the bad guys will have guns.... the same riders that will lane split and not do it safely are the same ones doing it now. so all we are doing is fucking the riders that follow laws.

if the speed limit is 55mph and traffic is stoped, you don't get to do 55 thru the cars you dumbasses. you have to go slow. like 5-10mph and if you can't ride you bike slowly between to stoped cars without hitting them. then you should have failed the msf course... and we need much better driver and rider training in the country anyways.

its kinda like a no right on red sign on a blind corner. it shouldn't be needed. if you pass the dmv test, that means you should be smart enough to know if you have time to pull out or not. having a sign to tell you is as retarted as needing a sign at every intersetion telling you to know pull out in front of on coming cars.... that's just part of driving. the idea is don't fucking crash. somehow people don't get that.
