I honestly think that them naming it "Top Gear" takes away from the shows credibility and really turns people away (especially the hardcore TopGear UK fans); they are trying to copy a long standing successful show even down to the name. If they would have named it something completely different, but kept the same format, I truly believe they would attract more people.

Despite what people say "oh it'll never be as good as the original", who cares!!! it's another automotive enthusiast show on TV, so heck yeah i'll watch it!!

Glad it is on the history channel, they have a really good line up now (I love Pawn Stars and American Pickers).

they aren't some random show just copying topgear. this is an officially licensed top gear show. They already have had top gear australia for years now.

a friend of mine runs a blog and got a sneak preview at the first three episodes. Looks promising. Here's the link, but there are some spoilers so don't read if you don't want to be surprised.

I wonder if the challenges are being written by Top Gear writers from UK. I agree about copying it, whatever...I'm always interested in a new car show. I think Battle of the Supercars is pretty cool as well.

Did you guys catch when Jay Leno had a bit on his short lived prime time spot where he had a celebrity in a reasonably priced car? I watched just to see that. Although it was celebrities driving over the course markers instead of around them.

Wait...Jay Leno...now that would be a good host for Top Gear US!

Without clicking the link above, does anyone know if the show will do the whole studio audience thing or just skit after skit?

I like the idea of the uk writers still controlling the challenges. Also, I like the idea of Americanizing some of the euro challenges.

I'd like for some top NASCAR drivers to drive the reasonably priced car to set some "benchmarks".

I ve been following the Aussie version as a pre view of what we are going to get the first season was a copy of the brittish version, the next series they changed one of the hosts and this last series with one more host change, and a cheap car change. And more austraillian specific challenges. It got better. I think the show producers learned a lot from the Aussies since they are like if the brittish and Americans had a drunken child it would be an aussie.

So. You are saying that all Aussies are alcohol baybies? That explains a thing or two.
