i don't see why that's degrading, or a money argument can't be used.
The difference between honda/acura and domestics in a young buyers mind is price. For the same price, you can personalize the import with the extra cash. Whether you are a terd and use it for rice stickers and fart cans is your choice. The reason why most domestic owners on TR fight this argument is because they chose to buy their car used, but the same price difference can still be said on the import side.
So in my opinion, the whole issue is based on how much money you have to spend and how personal you want your car to be of you.

 

I can see the point that you're trying to make... but I bought both of my cars brand spanking new (both 2002's) and they are still personalized. I have yet to see another WS6 running around that's just like mine. Now I have to say that I have seen another GTP that's just like mine, but not for long.

 

Just TRY and find one that looks like mine!

 

i go to eckerd college.

the school costs 27k for out of state students.

my sister goes to mt holyoke college in massachusetts. it costs 37k a year...

i bought my car for 2200. it was bone stock. i've spent 5k on it so far and went 14.5@95. i did all of the work myself.

i will spend another 2-3k and go 13.2's...and another thousand could put me in the 12's.

thats 10-11k for those keeping track.

 

There will always be the, "I smoked a Porsche. That guy paid way too much for that turd." comments. Then there will be the, "That guy gets the chicks." comments. Then there will be the, "My momma can beat your momma." comments. We just keep repeating history.

 

shit..I didn't think eckerd was that pricey..my bad...pretty campus though..we used to love going there for recruiting events back in school...lots of pretty gals last time I was there.

You see where i coming from though. If you have domestic that has work done to it, you either had to buy one that is older than the honda/acura or you just have a nice wad of cash.

You also have to factor in that some people have parents like mine, who are anti-buying used cars, and who aid in the purchase of the car. (i'm payin for my college, they are paying for half of my car). I was looking into finding a 91-94 MR2 turbo, but they wouldn't even consider helping me with it.

I just think people like to personalize their cars, and if they need the car to last 10 years, and can't buy used, a domestic is just out of the question.
