And do you know what's the difference between a "Vette" and a Z06, or a C5 for that matter??? The last time I checked, the Z06 WAS a C5!

Trap speed indicates power. Plan and simple. If u have two cars and x car traps 100mph and y car traps 110 well then the y car will win from a roll. What is the trap speed of the civic? -Mark

Stock C5's 1997-2003 are capable of low to mid 13's depending on driver and setup.

They are very light, aerodynamic, and fast even in the hands of an unskilled driver.

The Z06's are a mid 12-low 13 second cars and are all 6 spd manuals.

Most stock C5's in an average skilled 6 spd driver are capable of generating 0-60's in the high 4-second range, standing quarter in the 13.4's at 107-108 mph. That is only part of the story though-the untold other half is the C5's ability to hit 150 mph in around 30 seconds and in roughly a mile-from a dead stop. These cars pull fiercly above 100 mph and are glued to the road up past 170+

My "Garbage Non Z06" car with bolt on cold intake/full length exhaust (with high flow cats) makes roughly 390-400 flywheel hp and 390-400lbs of torque, capable of high 12's at 112mph and gets 30 mpg at freeway speeds. It will reach 150 in less than 30 seconds & less than a mile

Most imports stay away, and the only ones who ever put up a fight was a completely modded TT RX7 (spun through 1st & 2nd on useless Good Year runflats-and still beat him by 1/2 car and pulling him more through 4rth) and a completely modded TT 300zx (walked away from him by two cars++).

Most imports, unless they have serious power adders (NOS/Turbos/completely rebuilt race engine) are not much of a match for Chevy or Ford V-8's.

in our last thread, you said your car didnt run. running 12's one time doesnt count.

a vette however, ran 12's yesterday, today, and will agian tomorrow.

thats the big difference between a vette and your car

Here is a link to comparative runs of different cars on the same track, unlike what MT does. http://popularmechanics.com/automoti.../index13.phtml

Keep in mind that it is a '99 C5. In '01 HP & TQ were increased. Additionally the TQ curve of '01 & up shows that the peak TQ increased over a broader RPM range. All too many people focus in on the peak HP & TQ; what is more critical is the available power over the full RPM range.

I read the original post with some amusement. I think the movie Fast & Furious has gone to some heads. Further, I travel to FLA on business frequently & have seen a significant number of wannabees there, much more than we see around here. When I drive the Vette I have had quite a few 4-bangers pushing a run, frequently in congested areas. Any car can be made to go fast & I do appreciate whenever someone pushes the performance of their car. Just know your limits & play safe!!!

BTW there are quite a few Vette drivers who do not push their cars, nor do they really know how to drive. So be kind to those old guys.

A car with slicks will trap lower than a car on radials. Due to the fact that with slicks your taking tire spin out of the equation. IF u have tire spin, then wheels are spinning and the car isn't moving thus your giving the engine more time to reach it's power band.
