since it's more expensive to "slap" a turbo on a VR6 (which means if it's too expensive for you you'll go cheap) you'll probably come out with less power than you would by putting a turbo on a 1.8t which costs less money. if you checked out the ATP website you'll notice their turbo upgrade prices and power you'll make. www.vwturbo.com
anyhow, you're right. it's all opinions. if a person really wants to make power they'll make power. you just gotta do it the right way.

This question comes up alot, here's how I look at it.
If you are going to:
leave your car stock - go with a VR6
do minor mods - go with a 1.8T
go all out - go with a vr6
If you are going to:

I have a 03 gti 1.8t...........11psi ran a 10.15 in the 1/8..that was also on some bald ass tires.....Just the other night i ran my friend

you can make a 1.8T just as fast as going "all out" with a VR6. you just have to know wtf you're doing. that's all there is to it.

well i have to get rid of my truck first before i can do any of this..and im sure and MK3 vr6 is gonna be too much..i was hoping to find an old 1.8t or vr6(like the yellow 1 in your sig) or corrado(i think they look cool and you fix em up right but i have no clue what motor comes in those..)but im sure in good condition they will still be expensive..but thanks everyone for replying to my post..this is like the friendliest forum on here..lol

obviously someone isn't doing something right. or i was correct all along, unless you have tons of $$$ to do it the RIGHT way VW's are hopelessly slow!!!
