ok well an apr chip on the 93 octane will bump a gti from 180 to 215 thats 35 hp i just put an apr on mine and its pretty sick and i got mine done for 490 what else can u do that cheap for that much hp and a 3inch exhaust and DP is far to large for the stock turbo setup all u need is 2.5 from the turbo back dyno proven

 

i found a 98 GTI..w/50k miles..white..for only $5900..although it doesnt specify if it is a vr6 or 1.8t...is that good?i cant find any used 1.8ts..?

 

if its a 98 and its that cheap im willing to bet its a 2.0 not a vr6 and 1.8t's werent an option before mk4's came out although u can do a converion in a mk3 if u wish but then ur diggin deep in ur pocket

 

the Mk4's came out in '99. there were no 1.8t's then (1.8t's came out in 2000). call about that '98 and find out if it's a vr6 or 2.0. if it's a VR6 that's not a bad deal.

 

You should find a 98' MK3 VR6, slap a supercharger kit on it, and own chipped 1.8t's. And food for thought, a friend of mine dynoed his car at Secret Services the same day I did, and with a gutted airbox, turbo back exhaust, and APR chip he only dynoed 188hp/196ft/lb. My VR6 with just CAI and Catback dynoed 186hp, and 188ft/lbs. With a chip a 1.8t can most times beat a vr6, but an FI VR6 is just pure sex

 

for a 98 how much do they run? i cant seem to find many of them on the trader..is there anywhere else to look?

 

well a stock vr6 is more than a stock 1.8t and the price of a supercharger kit is expensive but yes u will owna 1.8t if u blot the supercharger on it i do agree but upgrade the stock turbo on a 1.8t and then u will own the vr6 all over again

 

ok turbo the vr6 and upgrade the turbo on the 1.8t..... the vr6 will come out on top.

but this arguement has been done to death, there's really no right answer, just a lot of opinions. if you like turbo's, and whats assciated with them, go with the 1.8t. i like good all around performance, thats why i shoe horned a vr6 in a mk2...
