yea... well, i dunno. i guess my brain is like a sponge... a dried up, stiff, funny smelling sponge. i didnt think people were listening to me jibber-jabber last weekend when we were talkin about your car. unless you mean mike... he kinda distracted me and started having me look at his mustang.

Kirk, you are right... thats the only real way to learn, thru experience. the first work i EVER did on a MK3 was a Head gasket job... and while i was in there i did a few small tricks like minor porting and gasket matching, throttle body coolant bypass, recontour the throttle body inlet, pipe-plugged the EGR port, re-tapped the exhaust manifold for 7/16"-14 bolts, bypass my heater core, etc.

Where to start

Where the hell am I suppose to learn then? I stopped going to i-Supra when they suddenly needed you to be 18 to go there. I do have the Mk3 tech forums stickied though...are you saying that they are wrong? If I have a question or problem, I'd look through there, not in the Off-Topic section or anywhere else where it literally is an entirely different world.[/quote]

dont try to photoshop a supra and pretend like its what your car is gonna be like... cuz i guarantee you that your going to roll on the stock wheels and brakes and body parts and even the color for more than a year after you buy the car....unless you are a true poser/ricer and buy rims and wings and hoods and shit before you even do a MHG/studs for the 7M.
If you couldnt tell, I am infatuated by the 1JZ. I am in no hurry to do anything more to the 7M then maybe an intake or something. I am purposefully finding a good N/A that I can drive till I can get the swap. $20 a month over insurance on swaping an engine anyways sounds good to me. I've already looked ahead and calculated that I'd have just enough for a regular N/A and a 1JZ clip, not including any extra money I'd get from relatives, a job, or the stock market.

As far as cosmetics...all ricers are stupid, but not all stupid people are ricers. I am in no hurry to tarnish the beautiful looks of the Mk3 Supra. You may have heard about my fantasies of a gullwing door conversion, which I am also in no hurry to do. Like I mentioned earlier, I didnt go out looking for rims I liked, I looked for the lightest rims made and went from there. The best looking wing for a Mk3 is the 89+ wing. I dont even like the bomex whaletail. As far as the hood...I also went for function there. The "top secret" type hood on the Mk4 uses louevers (fuck the french) to get heat out of the engine bay, so somehow I instantly liked the looks. I doubt anyone actually makes a hood like that for Mk3, but I dont care soon enough anyways for one. Painting the car is also money that could go towards regular maintenance/performance, such as a clutch, better radiator, whatever. The sad thing is either I'd get flamed for wanting to look like how I want it to look, because it'd be my damn car, or I'd get flamed because "280HP, especially stock, is too much power for a 16 year old". Which is okay, because I'm not going to hit WOT everywhere I go.

Even if I get as far as looks, it wont be for a good 4 years probably. I plan on keeping this car longer than I can. I'd like it to last me the rest of my time in high school then through collage. I do have a friend with an N/A Mk4 though that said he'd sell it to me in a few years, so I might have one of them too by the time I hit collage. Doubt it though.

ill admit i was in the same position you are right now. there was a time where i didnt own a supra, RX7, Trans Am or a DSM... now i own at least one of each and know them intimately. untill you own a supra, i would try NOT to pretend like you know wtf you are talkin about and just sit back and learn from everyone else's mistakes so you know what to do when you actually buy a supra. untill i actually own a car, i just lurk and research before posting. i dont even try to answer any questions or help others with problems untill i even OWN the car and understand what they are talking about.
I used to do that all the time. I guess I got bored and stopped remembering info and researching. I look back on my old posts and go "I didnt know that" because I had forgotten the info I used to know. I highly doubt its enough, but I do have a very very good friend of 9 years with a Cressida (7M-GE) so I have been able to be around it, change oil, learn a bit about it, though I doubt it's nearly enough.

so stop spreading misinformation, stop trying to be who you arent, stick with what you know and dont pretend to know everything. It may seem like I pretend to know everything, or others may think i know alot... but ill be the first to tell you i DONT know everytyhing and i dont pretend to either. I know what i dont know. You probably dont know what you dont know though.
I have a problem about that... I WAS getting better, but since I rarely listen anymore (since nobody understands me) I dont know how long it'll take. Hell I dont even listen to myself. I'll try to get myself up earlier or something random like that, and I end up not doing it.

As far as a certain stupid DSMer who felt he needed to chime in: I think I realized and remembed that the 1JZ uses a MAP not the same restrictve MAF from the 7M. Get your stock turbo info straight: CT-12B = 2JZ, not 1JZ. Take you and your goddamn confusing two-digit-number-one-letter turbo configuration elsewhere. Stick to your 14B 16G crap (for those who dont know, me and 25psi are IRL friends)

Dont take any of this as an insult or flame, I'm simply responding

dude, you are not contributing to my problem so please leave. We could care less what you want to do or what you think you know. No one said anything about the 1j using ct12b’s……maybe you need to work on your reading comprehension skills as well.

If you are to judge me so early, then I shall judge you for the same, and just assume you'd be better off 6 feet under. I'm not exactly who you think I am...but that doesnt matter. You suck at life.

oh my god..I'm aruging with a kid who dosent even own a car.

i guess you didn't see my post stating otherwise right after his. I need a map not your ideas on why its hitting fuel cut. go but a 200 dollar busted supra and fix it up if you really want to learn. Then sell it if you cannot afford the insurance on it. My buddy actually just picked up a turbo, targa, white (decent body) for 50 bucks plus whatever to tow it. If your so inclined to learn this is the best way for you to start it sure beats repeating what you have read on other forums. There are also many books explaining the fundmentals of engines and turbo systems. Spend a few bucks at the store for legitmate information.
