I haven't owned a supra in 5 years but I see the flame wars I used to see on the sogi mailing list haven't stopped.

Anyway, if the 1j is a map car it might run similar to the gen3 mr2 engine. When I was running the stock downpipe I would be more prone to boost cut because of boost spiking. I think the backpressure caused some ping, set off the knock sensor which retarted timing, and led to boost spikes. I wouldn't be surprised if a better open downpipe might help avoid boost cut.

As a side question, can you put stock 2J turbos on a 1J? Might be pointless, but I'm just wondering. thanks!

 

You CAN, but they dont just bolt on. Assuming you have it in an Mk3, then you'd need to do firewall mods, as it cut it up or bang it out. Lots of other fabrication too, google it on SF.

The dp isn't completely sucky for being stock its maybe a 2.5" being a cool night with an open dp is probably just want caused the issue. we just need to start building my new exhaust.


Yes you can use the 2j turbos but since they are sequential it makes it a little harder. I think some guys have used them as upgrades but I’m not exactly sure what all you have to do to make it work.

ill admit i was in the same position you are right now. there was a time where i didnt own a supra, RX7, Trans Am or a DSM... now i own at least one of each and know them intimately. untill you own a supra, i would try NOT to pretend like you know wtf you are talkin about and just sit back and learn from everyone else's mistakes so you know what to do when you actually buy a supra. untill i actually own a car, i just lurk and research before posting. i dont even try to answer any questions or help others with problems untill i even OWN the car and understand what they are talking about.

You guys are overreacting. Orion, you CANNOT use a GM MAF on a 1JZ. You guys don't need to attack him for that though. If your CT-12B breaks up due to overboosting you can send compressor blade chunks into your engine.

and I have NEVER heard of a compressor or exaust wheel heading into the engine. If it does happen I'll have to head to pluto or something since joey is claiming jupitor.
