the compression isnt bad though why do you keep saying that? and all i said was a valve cover gasket isnt going to cause blow by.

and just a question, if it had bad rings wouldnt it be burning oil? since oil will be slipping past the rings therefore making its way in the combusiton chamber therefore burning oil. the car doesnt smoke at all and if it does its black smoke which means running rich.

Oh sorry guys, the one time I comp tested an sr it was like 165. I guess it depends on your compression tester. 140 still seems real low to me for an 8.5:1 engine..

How bout this...how is the PCV valve functioning?

Nissans factory number per FSM is 156, so 140 isnt that low.

see thats what im trying to say, 140/150 should be considered normal for a engine with xxx miles.

EDIT: fuck it. typical 240 owner arguing until he gets the answer he's looking for. the engine is dying. fix it or finish it off in a blaze of glory. either way, we are all going to sit back and say we told you so.

Overfilled the oil? 4qts max on stock pan!

The only other thing that I can think of is a problem that I saw way back. An engine compression tested fine and made wonderful power, but filled the catch can in an evening. Car was eventually parted and found that there was a head gasket leak between the cylinder and crankcase. It would hold back the 150 peak psi from a compression test, but the 1500psi from combustion would leak through. Because of the path, there were no blown head gasket symptoms.

who is arguing? im just trying to ask questions so i can get a good answer. it could be rings but i am just skeptical about the engine having GOOD compression and supossdely the rings are bad. im just trying to help my friend out since we are getting many and many different answers.
