If it does need a trans it will be 5 speed swapped IF I can find a manual for the v6, that is. But I'm gonna drop It off at the shop this morning and we'll see.

well, i finally found the codes. they were codes 1 and 2. which from what i can tell are "revolution sensor" and "speed sensor" time to hunt down a distributor.

distributor?

why?

unless they did things really really really weird in that engine, the speed sensor is in the tranny... and the rev sensor should be in the tranny too... the dizzy has a crank/cam angle sensor that tells the ECU when to fire the coil and injectors.
As far as I was aware, the rev sensor for the tranny is totally separate of that.
I understood it to be that the engine and ecu and the tranny and TCU are totally seperate and the units talk to each other, instead of sharing sensors.

you are correct. i got some bad information from someone. and upon reading the FSM some more, i found that it is in the tranny.

pardon my stupidity, automatic trannys are the only thing on a vehicle that i know almost nothing about.

i'm pretty sure your honda's use the sensor in the dizzy so that might be where you got that info from.
but it isn't something that I've ever looked into.
Hell, the corolla I drive to work uses a vacuum powered sensor next to the throttle body to determine shift points and all that. It makes the tranny do all kinds of stupid shit when you get a misfire.

So, am I correct thatlthe speedometer can work fine, and the speed semsor be bad? Because it has a sensor and a cable?

actually... i don't know... I would imagine that the tranny has a separate sensor because if the "main" speed sensor went bad, it would mess up your speedo and the ECU would throw a code for it.
But I don't know and I wasn't about to find the answer in the 30 seconds I just researched it.
What FSM do you have? shouldn't it be in that?
