hey guys my wifes s13 when we drive it sometimes it works fine and sometimes it wont shift out of first. if you are driving and it doesnt shift you put it in nuetral shut it off start it back up (while moving or stopped doesnt matter) then put it in drive and it works fine. sometimes you will be driving and it will shift down and wont shift up until you shut off and restart etc. im curious if this could be the auto control box?

 

Its the trans, ka transmissions suck and blow up all the time. Time for a rebuild, or 5 speed swap.

It's not the transmission most likely. It is the RPM load sensor that went tits up. You're going to have to unplug it. Finding it is not that hard as it is one of three plugs located next to the passenger side fuse box. Offhand, I cannot remember which one it is but it should only a 2 wire connector.

If this doesn't help, I have a known good transmission control unit you can test. If that doesn't work, it's probably in need of a rebuild since there are some stuck solenoids in the valve body and probably some shot clutches as well.

Try the RPM sensor unplug first, it won't hurt anything.

lol no this car is not abused its my wifes daily. and i have 3 auto control units but i'll try unpluging that thanks guys.

 

if you wanna try you can always do a flush and fill. flush the tranny oil and put a new filter in.it worked on my intrepid but yet again it is a intrepid lol

 

its the revolution sensor. the plug is in the engine bay by the battery. just unplug it. its the top plug behind the fuse block , behind the battey

men in my two tone the tranny will only be in 3rd gear no matter what. I had to step on the peddle like 10 times to get it to go to 40 men it sucked balls.
