put it this way. clutch fan, on a typical sr on the dyno, youre talking maaaaaybe a 2 hp. loss.
same car with a taurus single electrical fan, wired through relays, cost nearly 10hp. i have dyno charts to prove it somewhere on my computer at home.

theres a reason these cars come with clutch fans. its the best way to do it.
why do you also think some of the most well built schassis cars in the counrty still use clutch fans? and japan as well?

sure, some people use electrical fans with success, but one will never find its way onto my perfectly cool, even when being beaten on car.

yeah i cant disagree w/ the electrical drain. tho there is a cure for that too. might i say alt upgrade. IMHO the more electrical items that you add to a car. the more sense it makes not only to run a battery that has more cca. but also a larger amp. alt. logically it does make sense. wouldnt you agree?

I think from a dollar per HP perspective, it is better to just run the clutch fan.
but, if that ratio isn't a problem, and you're building the motor and wouldn't mind buying an upgraded alternator, then i would agree that the electric fans are the way to go.
I don't like the clutch fan for two main reasons,
one, it reeks havoc on the water pump at higher rpms. especially if the fan is damaged in anyway. and especially once you get in the 8k plus area, not that many of our motors will ever see that, but still.
second, I hate how much space it takes up. It isn't an issue often, but when you have to do anything with your belts, the clutch fan is in the way something major. i've cursed mine untold number of times.

i agree.
but i also think that if you have so much extra shit on your car that you need a bigger battery and stronger alternator, its time to lose some extra unneeded shit.

weird, i think the total opposite.
i think without the shroud it looks sloppy, weird and like, incomplete.
just my opinion though.
and im not too sure on the higher rpm problem, and its not like an sr/ka really has any reason to be that high on the rpms for any long amount of time really.
but a yashio factory water pump pulley would probably help some.

In this month's issue of bavarian autosport, I was reading through it and they sell a pulley kit for your waterpump and power steering (those that have it) to turn at less rpm's than the actual motor at mid-high rpm range.. which in turn frees up more power! you want less strain on that PS and waterpump, gotta keep longevity......

if mismo made a kit for you 240 boys ya'll would be set.

thanks for the groundbreaking post on mysterious underdrive pulleys.
none of us had ever heard of such a thing.

Homie I'm not here to start am argument. im more function over form any day. only things i have in car right now that where not factory. "electrical of course" altima fans, 5 auto meter gauges, msd 6a box and coil, fog lights and a jvc deck later down the road i might. add 1 kicker 10 and a 200 watt amp. Im still planning on using the 800 cca battery and the quest alt. non of that excess BS ricer shit here. jus the the things i feel are vital to a DD.

The only perk i have is this coming t parts. junk yards as well as working at vatozone "disco's" my manager marks shit down for me a lot. because he knows im a broke MF'r and the car is the reason for it.

another thread entirely, but that msd crapola isnt doing anything but looking fancy in your engine bay and if anything, hindering performance.

but, thats another subject
im not saying youre driving around with like, a winch, and a george foreman grill running off a power inverter, just saying, for what i think is "correct", if theres enough shit in my car to have to go with a stronger alternator, ill take less shit.

i like the way it looks with the clutch fan and shroud. as long as the rest of the engine bay looks pretty stock.
The compromise I've come up with is a decent e-fan mounted to radiator with it own little shroud.
It isn't the same, but at least I don't get pissed off when trying to adjust the belts.
that and I think that with the stock shroud, you can do an oil change without getting under the car where as you can't with the stock one there... I think, I can't remember...
