bad thermostat?

wewll started to act up again....took it for a drive just a bit ago..didnt sound like the fan was coming on and the needle went from bouncin around near cold to a few ticks under hot...open the hood steam comin from cap and from coolant resevour bottle ...what is going on? just put the thermostat in the other day...havnt had a chance to grad a new cap yet....could this just be cap issues or other things?

so does anyone have a clew...going soon to go get a nismo cap and see if that helps any...i think i have air in the system ...

yea i think i might have a related problem, when i am pressing gas, the temp needle will go down to near cold, but once i get back to a steady rev then it goes to normal. i just replaced the thermstat not too long ago. air in the system hmmm. ill check mine get any air out if so.

well started her up and drove for a bit...fan kicked right on and such...no moving of needle and no steam> so wtf is up with this car? its off and on ....so ther has to be air in the system....

its better running cool than running overheating
Have you checked your sensor on your intake manifold? I've seen a lot of S13's Temp sensors going bad lately, mine did as well.
The steam is a sign of a blown Headgasket. Was it hot long enough to blow a headgasket? how old is the gasket in there now? Electric fans from a 2nd gen maxima work nicely (thats what im using) a little modification required, but atleast that way you know your fans are on regaurdless of the Temp gauge's shananagans. Goodluck, hope its not your HG!

naw dont think its HG...not leaking any coolant and no coolant in oil or vice versa....ill have to have that sensor checked....this was the first time it tried to overheat with steam and that mess

so where r all the nissan techs ??? hahaha...i just need someone to help me out with this problem....im leaning towards heater core also going bad...but the car is not leaking anything except for oil(main seals) but no signs at ALL of blown HG ....believe me i know of BHG when i see it...
