Crankshaft position sensor problem?
I bought a 96 eclipse GS. It had a valve cover leak, so I replaced the gasket, replaced plugs and wires, and did the coil pack as well. The car was having a miss in cylinder 2. Car is running fine but still has hiccups here and there. It was way worse b4 the coil replacement. Now, the car twice has stalled and won't start right back up. It takes about 5 to 10 mins. It is getting fuel and spark, the battery and starter are brand new as well. I am thinking that the crank shaft sensor is going due to the leak of oil from the valve cover but wondering what else could be causing it before I dish out 70 bucks on the part and that may not be it or maybe I need to check something else. The throttle sensor maybe?
^ what he said. Are there any codes? a CEL (check engine light)? Also, more information will be helpfull. What does the car do right before it stalls? any other symptoms? are you 100% positive your getting both fuel and spark? I don't see leaking oil messing up the sensor. I've had an oil leak from almost every spot on my motor and it never threw out a sensor. Also, with my last 420a, my fuel tank was extremely rusted and would clogged the fuel filter stalling out the car. Car would have to sit for a bit before it'd start up again. However, the car would buck like crazy before stalling. Probably not your issue but there can be a couple different explanations for your issue...
thats what baffles me because the cel light is not on at all. Is there a way to test. I read you can use an Ohmeter, is that correct? It hasn't done that stall in the last two days but it seems to put put going up hill but I know I'm in the correct gear. Also, another off question is can I put an srt motor in the car? Its a 420a and the pulleys and all are the same and seem like they would bolt correctly except I would have to have the exhaust refabed
If I was you, i'd take the cluster out and make sure theres an actual bulb where the CEL should be haha. I've seen many cars that had that bulb taken out haha.
To answer your motor question, NO. An srt motor will not go in your car. You can do the edz 2.4 swap (Code4 on this site has it done). You'd use a dodge stratus block in your car and you can run an srt4 crank, oil pump, ect, ect. It's a good swap but requires a custom made passenger side mount. I suggest you become a member on 2gnt.com for further info. 420a knowledge is limited on this site IMO.
