Yeah... no doubt. im glad its cold out makes me wanna get the car done b4 the weather goes away, but laying out in the driveway on the cold cement... up under the car. Everything is a bit more uncomfortable. Every bump hurts a lil more. Hands dont work as well. But i dont care, its crunch time now. Gotta man up and get it done!

Speaking of which. starter was removed, fluid drained. downpipe removed from exhaust and exhaust routed out of the way. Shifter removed. Now its time for work... but when i get off tonight the driveshaft is coming out. Pending on the weather i may drop the trans tonight, but most likely i will do it in the morning. We'll see. still some things other than the clutch an flywheel that need to be taken care of so time management is important at this point.

Well i got it all busted open. Transmission is in the bed of my truck with the old clutch setup. Flywheel is still on the car cuz i left my big ass socket and flywheel holder at the shop that was locked up today. So hopefully ill get those tomorrow and have the car on the road by friday. Transmission seems fine, input shaft looks good. Clutch pressure plate has a nice wear line on it but hasnt worn enough yet that there is a seperation between the grove and the rest of the plate... throwout bearing indent on the fingers is normal. looked at the friction disk. Pads look ok on the metalic side... however! the Kevlar pads do not. In only a lil over 1000 miles, the Kevlar pads are worn down almost to the rivet. THATS NOT A GOOD THING! apparently my car is making more torque than i had originally assumed when i had the friction disk built... after talking with the clutch guy and showing him everything i brought with me... he said i have 1 of 2 options. I can go full metalic to get better grip or i can upgrade the plate to get more clamp.

I was told that the army of angry midgets beating on my car with hammers was in fact clutch chatter from the disk catching and slipping in rapid succession due to not having enough grip or clamping pressure. This in turn caused eevrything to get hot and slip, eventually resulting in having no clutch. Thats why when i let the car sit for an hour or two it would drive again (albeit still slipping) for a lil while before acting up again. I didnt bother to tell the clutch guy i had ordered new stuff else where.. but its nice to get an explanation of what was possibly taking place beneeth me since i couldnt find anything broken.

So as of 5 am this morning the clutch and flywheel were in, transmission re attached and filled, everything ready to go. It was time for bed as i was posed to be at work at 8.... Needless to say i get up at 10... tinker a lil more on the car. adjust the idle and the timing. Once everything smoothed out i took it for a spin around the block to ensure everything was working properly. I have since adjusted the clutch pedal about 4 times... Still not where i like just yet, but its alot better now. It is apparent that i need the solid mounts under the engine, so ill tackle that today or tomorrow. The trans mounts are solid already. I will eventually nee dto strengthen the diff mounts as well as im sure theyre trash... All and all its been a very productive week, and im happy that the car is on the road despite the fact that it still needs several things to ride right. BTW, their is no boost gauge or controller in the car right now so i couldnt tell you what psi its running, but i can tell you that it is spooling and the BOV is activating... Other than that, im attempting not to boost much since their is no tune, on gauge/controller, and im still in the break in period. I can however tell you that mazda was a fool for releasing the fc in NA trim!

lol well if its not one thing its another..... I went out to the parkinglot to throw in the headlights while it was still light out and my buddy noticed this massive puddle under the car... Oil leak... how awesome! it appears to be leaking out of the pan gasket on the front side just below the front cover... almost center with the eccentric shaft pulley...pulled the dipstick and sure enough.... almost empty. So after work im driving back home to get a new oil pan gasket i have laying around and the solid engine mounts.... Then its off to the shop to use the engine hoist to raise it up a lil to make it easier to get the pan off and swap out the mounts.... Then put it all back togetehr and ride back across the bridge to the friday night meet. with the cam.... cant forget the cam...

Well their comes that time in every rotaries life where you just have to start over from scratch... that day has come for me. After the realization that my transmission needs rebuilding... and the effort to fix all the newly found leaks... and the rush to get everything together the right way for street heat this weekend... i have done what many before me have as well. Today i made my rotary go boom. I will take the rest of the week to think about future plans for this car....
