the fuel pump has its own ground so i doubt it. assuming ur battery is grounded to the chassis good then thats not the problem.

its the relay....... did u actually test it or u just saying its good. u have to make a jumper wire and check it manually to make sure it clicks on, its actally 2 relays combined into 1.

so the ignition part of the relay could still work while the part that turns the pump on is shot to hell.

OF COURSE that would be your problem! The main relay is the switch for the fuel pump. the pump could be perfectly grounded and still wont kick on because the relay wont without a proper ground.

as long as the chassis is grounded with the battery the relay will work. the thermo ground one dont matter for that.

relay is easy enough to test but i doubt he knows how he didnt even know how to check for codes

^Definetly correct
The ground that the ECU supplies to the second relay isn't anywhere near the ECU. It is in fact way up front on the engine! There are several wires originating from the ECU that are grounded on the engine block (probably so there won't be problems with bad engine to bodywork ground straps). On the CRX these wires are attached near the thermostat housing. Other models may differ. If the connection of these wires to ground is loose or corroded, you can get symptoms similar to a bad main relay.
