You need to machine clip groves into oem pistons for them to use a floating style rod like an eagle. I wouldn't bother, a set of ls rods with arp bolts will hold 9k rpms and be plenty durable. Make sure you have a machine shop install the arp's and have them re-size the big end of the rod. Should cost about $40 for the arp's and another $40-60 to have the bolts installed and the rods re-sized. So put that extra $200 you saved towards something else. Also b16a pistons in an lsvtec give you right around 11.5:1 compression which is about perfect for a street car in Florida.

well the reason im using eagle rods is im going to spray on it, i have an ls head that im thinking about using that has work done, (titanium retainers, and dual valve springs, and the ctr pistons for the compression ofcoarse, i would feel safer using eagle rods on spray then stock ls rods on arp bolts. eagle rods already ready have the arp bolts already on em

unless its a drag only car,the compression is to high, and may even lose power over useing Pr3 pistons, you will need race gas.

Then don't cherap out and buy a set of forged pistons then. Spend the extra $400 and know you will be good to go.

brandon ls rods will be fine for spray. i had myne shot peened n polished, their now the strongest you can get b4 going h beam. have the machine shop do that when they resize the big end of your rod and install the arp bolts. ull be fine using them. sell those forged ones and use the profit for something else. ctr pistons are stupid. the compression is WAY too high with those. stick to b16 (either jdm or usdm) pistons bc they will press right onto those ls rods. ur bottom end will hold up just fine as long as its assembled right.

the only reason i want to keep the eagle rods is so i dont get a rod knock the h-beams are alot stronger then ls rods, ideal is 75-80 shot here and there.

what compression would be "safe" for an ls that is still fairly high

then again i dont get because i see a couple friends gsr with 11:5 and and 1.8 ls with type r pistons been running fine for yrs

stock gsr compression is 10.0:1. type r is about 10.8:1 usdm. jdm r is in the low 11:1 range. if you slap b16 pistons in there on ls rods u will be in the mid to high 11:1 range (it depends on the head/pistons you use). as for the 75-80 shot....i kno someone runnin a 65 shot on a stock single cam bottom end and hasnt had any problems for quite a while. ull be fine on stock internals, especially with bigger rod bolts and new bearings. ive also seen an h22 run on an 85 shot for a long time as well bone stock.

the reason i say b16 pistons is bc there is no modification needed to have them press fit onto an ls rod. type r pistons will require the small end of the rod to be milled a tad for them to be pressed on. its a lot of hassle. you will be safe on the oem internals as long as its tuned right.
