Which motor to buy?

I have a 2000 Civic EX 5sp.

Integra Type-R or Civic Type-R?

Or neither?

I was going to buy one on TR, but I'm concerned that it will be ragged or hot.

And no, I don't want your buddy's LS with 380,172 (highway) miles on it.

Hmotorsonline.com has such a glowing reputation, the choice seems logical. They have very reasonably priced full changeovers. I'm not excited about sourcing this part and that part- I want it all so I can drop it into my car and be done.

So, dear friends, which way should I go?

I would buy it from HMO, and it would either be a

Now Clearly the ITR is more powerful, but look how close the CTR is, and with a smaller displacement!

Is the extra money for the 98+ spec ITR worth it?
Has anyone ever owned both, or driven or worked on both for comparison?
What are there respective strengths and weaknesses?
Are the parts readily available?
Is the trans of one better that the other?
Does anyone even care if you have a CTR?


What do you have to say? What's your experience?

 

not sure which to go with, but from my experience i love my itr. engine runs strong and gives great response when needed. the lsd tranny is great too. only had the itr for 6 months now but never had any probs with it yet and the part availibility is there...not so much here on tr but ive done my research and theres plenty of goodies out there! g/l!

just buy a GSR and put the extra money in to cams or something

1.8 > 1.6

 

2.2>1.8 !! in all honesty the gsr is going to be the cheapest and easiest to do. get a jdm gsr and slap a thinner head gasket in it with a different intake manifold and tune it and ull have type r hp for less money. put the type r cams in it and ull be even better off. nothing against the type r bc its a great motor, but a gsr with bolt ons and a tune will make the same hp for less, AND with those bolt ons ull get more power if u decide to put cams in it. just my .02.

 

Well, he didnt ask anything about a H22 he only asked which we would prefer so I was trying to stay on topic. But if you want to compare all the motors and from my experience I guess this would have to be my choice in line up from greatest to worse.

K20a > H22a Type S/Euro R > JDM ITR > JDM GSR (Sir-G) > USDM ITR > CTR > USDM H22 > USDM GSR > a B16

 

He gave us the "neither" option which was the best one he listed

 

haha neither FTW! i believe we are all tryin to save the guy some money and help him make power. but ya if u have the funds go k series.
