what are the weakpoints in the LS??
ive heard the rods are first to go,
shouldnt i get turbo pistons and some good rods?
then address the head.. i mean, for turbo the head doesnt really matter..
im not saying turbo cams would hurt : P

it depends on hp..but typically its the pistons(ringlands) go first..

weakest point in that ls block is the dinky rod bolts. after market rods n pistons wouldnt hurt and neithe would cams, but thats just more money added onto the swap.

+1. if he werent boosting the motor it wouldnt matter. i used to take my n/a ls to about 7400 daily and never had a problem. BUT boost adds preassure and stress on internal parts, so if there is a weak point in the motor somewhere, expect the extra stress to exploit it and break it lol.

without any head work and stock cams there really isnt a need to go over 7.2k. power starts falling off around 7k for me and thats where i usually shift.

by adjusting the cam timing u can move peak power up and down in the power band (which is exactly what i did). add to that a decent tune and you sure can make power past stock ls red line. been there done that.

and to answer the above question....i suppose you could just add the rod bolts. ud have to drop the pan and pull the caps off and then put the new bolts in. forged internals might b a better solution because the stock ringlands are also a weak point (tho not as much as the rod bolts). limited boost and modest revs should keep this from being a problem, but its always better to be save then sorry.....thats y i say build SOHC FTW!!! lol
