pick yourself up a march issiue of HONDA TUNNING. inside there is 3 pages on how to make a mini-me sohc. tells you all the parts needed and compression ratio's of different block/vtec head combinations. looks very simple. I've never touched a single cam so thats all the info I can give you.

thanks a lot for all of the help guys... im looking into getting a d16y8... yes im pawn3d by my g/f but thats a fact of life for me and ive come to terms with that... i didnt want to go the mini me route b/c it sounds like too much of a headache when you can swap the whole engine out for a newer one and i think that it would be a hell of a lot more reliable also... how much of a difference will i see between getting si or zc tranny and sticking with the stock d16y8 tranny? thanks a lot for all the help

you said 91 hatch, right? that car uses a cable operated clutch system, a y8 tranny is hydraulic, so it won't work unless you get the thing hasport makes to use hydro in a cable car. for ease, si tranny. the zc intermediate shaft didn't bolt up to my d15b block when i went to put it in (gay). not sure about bolting it to a y8 block. keep posting if you have any more Q's.... BTW, i have one of each laying around now (1 Si, and 1 ZC tranny).
