Default Flywheel..How light is too light?

on the market for a lightend flywheel for my current project,i know lightend flywheels put more power to the wheels by eliminating all the weight of the fly wheel, but ive heard from some that if you go TOO light, you could also lose power, now im kinda sceptical about that statement but what i was thinking is the lighter, the more unreliable/able to break on you..help me out.-Greg

to me i would say it goes with your setup i just built a high high compression motor with a 8lb one and man it pulled so hard it was great BUT i used a act 6puck then i tried it with a stock disk it was tight and nice then i change it again to a 10.9 lb on just the stock one i did not like that one for some reason my rpm would rish for no reason so i took it off now im with a 12.2Lb with stock disc it catches so damn hard but takes that extra sec for my rpms to raise like with the light one,but im now going to rebuilt another motor for mid comprssion with a 9Lb flywheel and a streetStrip disc with a stock pullie and see how it is i guess it goes by setup ......tell us what you have or want

First off, you mention running a lightened flywheel. I wouldnt suggest this what so ever, I'd suggest an Aluminum Fidanza 8.5 pound fly. I know everyone else probably meant the same but you can lighten an OEM fly. Also this is what I run in my set up and love it.....It's actually Keith fly from his GSR Turbo hatch Had to keep it in the family.

running too light a flywheel makes taking off very difficult, less weight means less force to slow down (and vice versa). billy's wrx for example, had a lightened flywheel, and he had trouble launching because the car would bog, went back to his stocker and it is fine and dandy. my advice is find a happy medium, tried and true things...ive driven a del sol with an act 6 puck clutch and heavy PP, with some insanely light flywheel (wanna say 6lbs) and it was either feather the clutch, which was hard to do period, or raise the rpms some more and feather it a little less. but like i said, its something your going to have to feel out.
