It's pretty easy to strip a DD of 100-200lbs. I weigh and document all the parts I remove and replace. It takes a little more time but it's fun to add up how much weight is lost. One airbag weighs about 3lbs and if you wear your seatbelt there is little use for them.

This isn't a fucking ricer trend, its a weekend warrier car that just so happens to fall into a class that require the sunroof of a vehicle to be replaced with lexan, a net, or a sheet metal or composite cover.
I bought my car with the ricer kit molded on and I dealt with it. Not my taste, not my problem.

Are you actually racing this car or is it a DD like you stated? For a DD it makes no sense at all. If it were a purpose built race car then it would be a different story.

Chuck - Fart pipes on civics can also be considered a "performance mod"....

Hey, big sound means big power.

Weight savings is a handling mod, which are more revealing on a road course than a drag strip - drag racers don't lose races by being out-braked or lateral g-forces. The OP is correct, losing weight up top is considerably more beneficial than losing weight down low, although that wouldn't stop me from ripping out carpet.

If it increases gas mileage then it makes sense.

I'm with Chuck, except the part about weight savings being a handling mod... It improves every aspect of the car, which is what's so awesome about it. I know when the time comes to replace the front or rear glass on my weekend car, it'll be FAL or Percy's Speedglass.

I break mods into three basic categories - HP, handling, poser.

So with the money you have you are telling me that you can't take that shit off and make your car look nice?

And yes, I am actually racing this car. If I wasn't then I wouldn't have said that some sanctioned racing requires manily the sunroof to be replaced with something other than glass. The car is a DD but also a race car. Its not easy to do both well because you have to make compromises lol.
