Reinstating 55mph?
"The real solutions to our energy crisis will be the heavy taxation on all new suv purchases. I mean, if you can buy a $60,000 yukon from dick norris gmc and keep it filled with gas, you can afford to pay an extra $10,000 in taxes so that tax on gas at the pump can be lowered significantly."
are you serious....

It wouldent effect me that much since I mostly stay on back roads.
I used to drive on fowler to work and only averaged 22mpg at half tank I was around 106 miles.
I started taking the back roads I now avreage 37mpg with 186 miles at half a tank

i think its ridiculous, and hopefully it will go nowhere.
the deal with the gas prices its not that bad, ppl make it a really big deal for paying $4 a gallon, and they act like they will go poor because of that.
what about for example in europe, where im from ppl are paying $8+ a gallon! and we dont make that much money there. but on the other hand, we got a LOT of cars that get 40+mpg, as opposed to here, the land of the gas guzzlers.
id say bring the compact diesel cars over here and all economic cars, and yes, we will start to see a difference.

Yeah, it's called the gas guzzler tax. Read:
Vehicles that get at least 22.5 mpg (combined) don't have to pay the Gas Guzzler Tax. The Tax rate goes from $1,000 for vehicles that get at least 21.5 mpg (combined), but less than 22.5 mpg (combined) all the way up to $7,700 for vehicles that get less than 12.5 mpg (combined).
The kicker is that SUV's are not included in this. The law was inacted in 1978, so SUV's weren't a factor. Imagine the taxes that would be raised with $7700 for every new large SUV sold... use that money for healthcare, or schools, or Mars!
Update the math skills. 0.18% is a .0018 multiplier. No one gives a damn about $2.5m if we're over $1.4b per day. That's why we use percent figures in the first place... to show how insignificant things are.

It's called contraception and if necessary abortion. No family needs to consist of more than 2-3 children. And ONLY if you can afford said family without relying on the government for support. If you are an individual on one of the various systems of welfare you do not need to reproduce. The health department or Planned Parenthood will give you FREE condoms. Planned Parenthood also offers reduced cost birth control and there are plenty of agencies that offer reduced cost and sometimes free abortions.
Hell, if you're on welfare you're likely good at shop lifting, steal condoms.
But... back on topic: I'm in favor of a gas guzzler tax. And 55 mph speed limits will only give cops more reasons to harass people.

I do 5 over...no matter what the speed limit is. It's not worth a ticket to me--the money spent on the ticket fine and the insurance getting raised isn't worth getting somewhere only a few minutes sooner.
everyone is bitching about high gas prices...going 55 saves more gas than going 75-80 believe it or not.
in the july 08 issue of consumer reports they tested an 08 camry and yielded these results...
55mph-40mpg
65mph-35mpg
75mph-30mpg
if you have a 100mi trip and you go 55 it'll take just about 2 hours to get there, and you'll use 2.5 gallons of gas
drive at 75 and you get there in about an hour and a half +/- a few minutes, but you'll use over 3 gallons of gas.
it is not much of a difference either way I'm not defending either side, but ppl bitch about gas prices AND speed limits, so there are two scenarios for you to decide your driving habits upon
