manual transmissions will become a thing of the past because the 'auto's with clutchs' outperform them in every aspect, that's whay I said that. not to mention most people who buy cars are lazy... if you can have a car that outperforms, AND sells better, I don't see the need for 'true' manual transmissions.

that the almighty gtARRRR and evo for examples
just my opinion

Try doing that on an M5. Shift pattern is some crazy shit like

What the hell.
i can't believe they would give a warranty with that. that's just asking for money shift.especially the 5-6 shift.

Its the SMG's shift pattern, if it were a true manual. You just bump the shifter forward or back or use the paddles to shift.

The computer engages the gear for you.

So why is it companies are putting these in so many cars and in some cars making this an only option?

I mean the closest i've come to using one was in a friends m3 and although it was fun it didn't seem to have the same effect as a traditional manual gearbox....
Its because rich, lazy people wanna make belive they know how to drive a manual.

I drove a manual for 7 years, then a high stalled auto. Both are really cool for a few years when you are young, then they get tiresome.

SMG is a nice mix of both. I get so tired of pushing a clutch pedal around in traffic. If my phone rings, I just pop it into auto shift and I'm good to go.

I tell people I'm driving and I'll call them back later

I drove the last half of my junior year and all of my senior year every day to Wendy's and ate it on my way up to technical school and never had any problems because of it. Some ollld lady pulled out in front of me once but that was long after I finished my lunch and I wasnt at fault. All of the above was in the 5 speed hot pocket.

Hell I drove a month without touching the clutch pedal..slave and master both went out at the same time so I rev matched everywhere

I must be an anomaly. Or maybe it has something to do with the kind of car that has the standard.

110,000 miles and I haven't once complained about the clutch.
