either way, paddle shifters make it feel like youre playing gran turismo with the manual transmission. its still fun i guess but not nearly the same as having that clutch. theyve got some serious convincing to do before i get rid of my traditional manual trans.

all i know is tony kanaan had a black e46 m3 with SMG, he sold it and bought a white e46 m3 traditional manual. his username on m3forum is TK6. according to him, smg is fun sometimes, but he prefers traditional manual.
I'd probably feel the same way if i had the choice.
he just put a turbo on his car btw. car is absolutely sick

Fear not. It's been that way for decades. In fact, if anything it seems like manuals have made a slight increase in popularity in the past 20 years.

Nicely said yourself. All these electronic nannies lull drivers to sleep while dulling their skills at the same time.

I know I can't shift quicker than a Tiptronic or whatever the latest fad is. I also know that the one second per lap advantage they have doesn't make up for the fun I'm having slapping a H-pattern, rev matching and clutch braking.

The latest tech isn't always a great idea.

Basically what I was aiming for. I dont care that your magic rotary transmission is faster, I much prefer pushing in the clutch and selecting each gear myself.

Try doing that on an M5. Shift pattern is some crazy shit like

What the hell.
