Beating on it, would be redlining before the car has had time to warm up, hitting full boost before car is warmed up, Redline shifts all the time, tracking the car regularly and not changing the oil every 3K miles, not keeping up to date with your fluids...etc.

Your fine

97 dont have d15's...

either way that motor wouldnt care if you bounced the rev limiter all day. Altough when you shift your tranny might disagree.

4000 rpm is twice as much as 2000 rpm, which means twice as much wear.

Additionally, higher rpm means higher heat which means even more wear.

It all depends on where your power band is and how long you want to keep your car.

If someone can give me there opinion.
4-5k RPMs is higher than you need for a normal shift. They rev-match at what, 3200RPMs?

But not beating on it. Beating on it is what you do to a rental car.

Ummm, picture? Anyways, try this. On your next tank of gas, drive like you normally do (4K+ shifting or whatever) and record your fuel mileage, then compare it to EPA ratings. That should give you an idea as to how hard you're driving it, compared to how hard you're expected to drive it. I usually get better than EPA ratings because I drive like a grandma.

redline is like what 6k on that motor? 5k shifting isn't going to hurt it, if you bounced the needle all the time then that's different but it sounds like your driving at about 75-80% throttle. Your fuel economy is going to vary from the epa ratings, I have found that honda tends to rate thier cars lower than what you can get. A b16 imported, driving highway and city, 6k shifts (redline at 9k), and 33-35mpg....I doubt it was rated that high when it came out....even in the del sol in the 90's. My 01 civic was rated at like 36/40mpg city/hwy and I would get 42-45 if it was all hwy and 36-38 with a heavy foot and combined city/hwy. Then my 93 hatch got mid 30's and I drove it like I wanted a new engine.

Chances are your "friend" is used to v6-v8 motors that do need to shift at 3k and get oil changes evry 3k miles....not the 4cyl with a power band that starts a 3k and the sevice manual goes 5-10k between oil changes.
