Exclamation What is "beating" on an engine?

My freind was in the car with me the other day and said I am puching my car to much, I drive a 97 civic, and I shift at roughly 4-5 rpms at the most, and I dont floor the gas ever! And I dont race, because I have a stock civic. Is that pushing my engine?

If someone can give me there opinion.

The usual RPM for shifting would have to be 3k. But you have a civic, beat on it all you want; it's going to last.

Yeah, if you drive like a grandma.

A little high wont hurt anything. You'll be fine. Tell him to shutup.

I LOL'd
If you are bringing it to redline at every shift I would say that you have a problem, but you should be fine the way you are.

i consider beating on the car to be me hitting full boost in every gear. also, accelerating hard, burning out, no-lift shifts, etc. i normally drive pretty easy, i shift around 4k rpms, and i rarely get on it.
