Uhh, it's more exciting, if you put it in reverse, instead.
That really was a joke.........................maybe. -Bob

Sorry but it amuses me every time when I hear people from the states having problems with stick shifing.

it's realy no big deal, first of all don't rev your car all the way up if it's still cold. after you drived it warm DON'T let it bounce off the rev limiter like some guys I've seen on youtube.....makes you slow and it's just silly!

We here in Germany don't learn how to drive automatics in school.....for a reason. We sure do have automatic cars, but only old people are driving them.

I still wonder why american driving schools teach automatics only?

Ok I have to admit most of the roads in the states are straight (especially in Florida ), so it's a comfort thing I guess, but you all know how hard it is when it comes to drive stick and you've been driving automatics for years before...

The area I live in is very hilly, so a stick shift is way more fun.....but in a traffic jam I sometimes want an automatic or sequential shift because pumping the clutch all the time while rolling is just annoying.
Btw, I have to replace my clutch the pre-owner was drivin city traffic only and ruined it.

Default Why we are bad drivers

Wonder why?

Beginning U.S. driver's education classes teach high schoolers/teenagers to drive auto 'cuz it's easy to teach. They also teach right foot usage for both gas and brake, so the student can't wreck the driver's ed car as easily......................automatically creating slower reaction times in an emergency. They teach you that you are incompetent to drive any other way, and that you will die a bloody death on the road, before you get a piece of pussy!

The test establishes "minimum competency", meaning that a 16 year old is just as "good" as someone 116 years old. In Florida, if you don't crash or get a ticket for 3 years you get a "safe driver renewal",
meaning you can renew by mail! I have one!

They also teach in enclosed parking lots, at idle speed, so the car won't get wrecked. The cars have dual brake controls, cable activated, and are pretty poor as far as emergency stops by the instructor.
----------------
If we had quality instruction, we would have fewer crashes, nation wide, and lower insurance rates....................which is not what the insurance lobbyists want. If you give inadequate training to someone in the beginning, they probably will be bad driver's their whole life.

But in America, you drive a car and Dale Earnhart drives a (race) car, therefore you think you are as good as Dale Earnhart................and you learn from watching television sitcoms, that you are supposed to always blame someone else for what happens to you.
-----------------
The standard driver's ed classes are 40 hours classroom and 6 hours in the car. It should be 6 hours classroom and 40 hours in the car ............then
they are tested in an enclosed parking lot (Florida) and turned loose on the roads to learn how to drive by observing other bad drivers who learned to drive the same way.

God blessed me with learning another way, and driving another way.
Driving is like sex. Everybody does it, and everybody thinks they are good at it, but some are a LOT better than others! Females are free to challenge me on this. -Bob

Generally, if you drive stick shift good, and don't do 34509345 hard, slip launches, your clutch will last a long time. I have 154k miles on the original clutch on my Acura 2.2CL.

I dunno how the preowner handled the car, but if I look at the condition of the clutch I dont think he knew how to use it.

And thx for the info about driving lessons in the states.....its way different here.
we do have double gas, clutch and brakes also, but no second steering wheel.
There are no driving schools in our regular schools, so you have to pay a lot of money to get the license.
I dunno how many hours in class you have to take in germany, but I am pretty sure we have to drive way more hours in car then you do! on the autobahn, at night, country roads, in the city.....it's very stressfull because you dont go on a parking lot in first practical lesson....they let you on the street.

we are allowed to drive a car when we turn 18, now whats new is drive a car with 17 and if you are with one of your parents.
and if you don't knew, alcohol is legal in germany with 16 years.....I dont think thats a good mix btw we have the same ricer problem like in the states, that and acohol results in a lot of deadly accidents over the year.

greets,
tobi
