Corvette SS annouced
In an effort to keep this civil, let me clear a few things up. If this turns into a pissing match over import vs domestics or gas mileage vs HP, i'll promptly leave this thread alone.
My original comments were to poke fun @ Mars_302 because he is a diehard Ford fan. I don't like domestics and with that said, I LOVE the new Corvette. I brought up gas mileage because he brought up Honda and well...that's all Honda really has going for it at this point.
The muscle car era IS over. There are still some descendants of the era still being made (Vette, Viper, Mustang, GTO) or old ones being brought back (Charger, Camaro, Challenger) but the bottom line is the world has changed since then. Muscle cars stopped being made when the EPA standards started tightening down on emissions. That, plus the Cold War (or whatever else at the time) driving up gas prices meant there was a shift in the market towards smaller, more economical cars. In come the JDM.
Now, we can produce cars with big HP and still meet emission standards. Only problem is, gas prices are higher than ever for whatever reason so the market still isn't there like it used to be in the 50's-early 70's. Because of this, I say the Era is still over and will be for a while. Big V8's will still be made by your big 3 but not like they used to be. Or they'll do something as asinine as introducing a FWD V8 Impala into the market. What a crock of shit. But that's another topic.
No, you're not stupid if you purchased a car for power and not gas mileage. What I meant by my comment specifically was, in today's reality of high gas prices it would make more sense to have that car as your weekend toy, but also a vehicle that you drive day in and day out that gets over 30mpg. I wish I would have gotten that vehicle first instead of this high strung, no TQ having tin can that I have to putt around in everday that gets 22mpg at best. You live and you learn.

The best engine in the world is the vagina, it takes any size piston, its self lubricating, starts with 1 finger, and every 4 weeks does its own oil change. It's just a pity the management system is so fucking temperamental.

You just named 7 muscle cars from 3 of the top manufacters, yet in the same breath state muscle cars are dead?

Im willing to bet most of those cars, if not all, get at least 25 mpg highway.
Yea but to add to his point... stick a turbo in a little 4 cyl and it sells better then big lunkers....and gets better gas mileage... now i drive a crappy turbod 4 but I would take a big v8 all day long over my car... just can't afford it... like most of America and thats why econo cars outsell muscle cars...and are taking over the market
im pretty sure that was his point.

Just to clarify, not jumping into this discussion, but the Charger is a sedan and the Camaro and Challenger aren't in production yet. The '06 Mustang GT only get 25 mpg in manual trim (be honest, auto does outsell manual trannys) in auto its 23, the Shelby GT500 gets 21 mpg. The '06 Viper gets 20 mpg. The Z06 does manage 26 mpg. The regular vette does 28 mpg and so does the v6 Stang (in manual, in auto its 26). So the talley is the Z06 and GT in manual.

Plus the regular GT makes it 300 hp with still 87 octane. I dont think any of the other cars are on that status.

The fact that the camaro and challenger further backs up my point. If Muscle cars are dead, why are there 2 more on thier way onto showroom floors?
I only get 16MPG! lol.
