It was already mentioned, cost - both in development and maintenance.

 

What Chuck said. Reading is funadmental. And theres other, less costly ways we've found to up power. Like better pistons/cylinder heads/etc.

It's "more maintenance cost."

A small little 12-inch chain/belt vs. a chain big enough to wrap around Rosie O'Donnell.

ok but in the v8 world thats alittle different then the 4cyldr world just becuase the type of motor

but back to the point why is the guy with the 135hp dohc 4 better then the guy with the 135hp sohc 4? no this isn't stupid because there are u.s 4 that are sohc the make that power !! ya you can say that the dohc or a k, b-00 or in my case fs whatever can make 2000hp but will there ever be one on the road as a daily driver? that what im saying

Now, if it were an in-line 8 then DOHC would probably be worth it. But that would be one ugly engine.
